We have already had a pretty eventful week, and its only Wednesday! Who would have thought coming in that this might be one of the bigger weeks of bunt in a long time. Here are the highlights.
Tony Gwynn Memorial Card
Collectability: Strong
Playability: N/A
What a sad day for baseball, as Gwynn was a true legend and a player who dominated a generation of the game that boasted some of the best pitchers in history. Amazing. This card is well done, and there are a lot of Padres fans who will want it. I really like that Topps has been doing stuff like this.
VIP Johnny Cueto Black 3x Boost
Collectability: Extreme
Playability:
Ladies and gents, you are looking at the best card in the game in terms of points. Although the 4x boost Trout may be playable 6 days a week, this card is going to score like mad. Trout has off days, but Cueto has been hotter than a volcano. I had to trade a sig plus for my copy, but I am glad to have it.
Johnny Cueto Signature Series
Collectability: Extreme
Playability:
Another really cool Johnny Cueto card is out today, and like the boost, this is a sig that a lot of people are going to want. I think that the 500 copies may hurt its value a bit due to rarity, but it will be one of the more valuable sigs this week.
VIP Torii Hunter Gold Glove
Collectability: Good
Playability:
Personally, I am not a big fan of the player selection or the card choice for Gold VIPs, but it is what it is. Lots of people have been trying to get rid of this card since it was released yesterday, so the market is a bit flooded right now, but it may retain value as the year moves on. Should be able to get some gold pitchers for it.
Agreed, I was not excited about the Hunter Gold but it’s tough to complain about a free card. Cueto sig is one I definitely will be chasing later today when I get my VIP coins.
Really grateful for the Gwynn tribute. Classy that it was given automatically to Padres fans.
I have to say, beware: do not fall for “The White Pack” in the store. Big waste of coins.
