Huddle’s Offseason Blitz Continues: Post Draft and Other Sets

I have been thoroughly impressed with Huddle’s offseason so far. Not only have they done some amazing things with the draft, but they have put out some of the best looking cards since the change to headshots. If you havent checked in lately, you are definitely missing out.

Draft Duals and Triples

CaptureCapture

The draft cards are easily some of my favorite of the entire year, even more than some of the action shot stuff that came before week 2. Being that this is one of my favorite events of the year, I will fully support more cards as the offseason moves along.

The dual player and triple player cards are awesome, with variants adding to the chase that was already very difficult. The value of the top picks has been very high, as people have responded to the first opportunity to get cards of their team’s new weapons. I would love to see some more work get done with these, especially if the NFLPA will allow huddle to take things a step further. There are thousands of photos out there from years worth of rookie combines to use, and I would love to see what TOPPSALFRED can do with the new pictures.

Verdict: Game Winning Touchdown

Offseason Sigs

CFDsO-9UsAAf6Us

When the first batch was released a few months ago, I absolutely fell in love with the design. It makes me wish that this was the way the head shot sigs looked all season, as the cards look more dynamic this way with the chalkboard theme.

The award sigs are even cooler, with the silver and gold to represent the white set and the variant set. Overall, these have been a tough chase, but are a big win for the people who stuck around. Very well done.

Verdict: Touchdown

Die Cut Series

Capture

I was never a huge fan of the die cut series, mainly because I was a points player, and they didnt score. Although the black design is actually really cool, the blue design isnt one I like. I was happy to see that the award is Teddy Bridgewater, so obviously I chased down all five, but I think a cool re-design would be something worth everyone’s time.

Verdict: Field Goal

Limited Series

Capture

This design is a huge upgrade over the original, and I think that the checklist has been pretty good as well. Because the cards are so rare, it can be veeeeeery difficult to collect the set, and I expect that Phillip Rivers will be one of the more exclusive award cards to pick up.

Verdict: Touchdown

Street Series

Capture

This round of Street had a great checklist with Luck, Brees and company, and I think that the new design looks better than the original (as good as that was). My only complaint is that the award card is TY Hilton, which put a damper on everything. Hilton played very well in 2014, but has yet to really be someone that is worth collecting a set for. Just my thoughts.

Verdict: Field Goal

Overall, I cannot wait to see what Huddle has in store for the rest of the offseason, especially as the season draws closer. We all know that 2016 will depend on a lot of different factors, and based on what we are seeing, there are some definite bright lights at the end of this tunnel.

Star Wars Unwrapped: My Five Favorite Insert Sets So Far

We all know that the inserts drive the game, and many of them are so valuable that they can shut down the servers across all four apps. Star Wars has had a number of really cool sets, and I think its worth talking about some of my favorites so far. Remember, these arent necessarily the most valuable, just the ones I like the most.

1. Film Quotes

Capture

Star Wars has always been as much about the characters as it has been about the story or environment. Many of the quotes from the movie are among the most iconic in the history of cinema, which is why I love this set so much. Not only that, but it looks cool as a horizontal presentation with the film cell look to it.

2. Shred

1

These cards are supposed to represent the feeling of opening up a real pack of cards, and I think they look really cool. The design easily accomplishes the theme they were going for, and the checklist has been awesome as well. I love the look of these cards.

3.  Widevision

4

From a look and feel perspective, Widevision is the best of the weekly inserts in my opinion. It is a celebration of some of the best scenes in the movie series, and the movie theater like approach does many of these scenes the justice they deserve.

4. Vintage

1

Star Wars and Nostalgia go together like lightsabers and focusing crystals. Vintage is the embodiment of that nostalgia, wrapping the fun of the original film series in a set that commemorates some of the great moments. The bent corners and creases add that extra level of old age.

5. Bounty

Capture

This is a really fun concept, and I am actually surprised they have found a way to stretch it as far as it has already gone. The “wanted” poster style look is quite impressive, with futuristic twist, something I was a fan of since the beginning. I just think its a cool way to showcase some of the universe’s biggest villains.

Bunt Tip of the Day – Why Are Sigs Such a Big Deal?

Ever since Bunt brought the sig to the app back in 2013, they have been a driver of the trade economy like no other sets. Although other cards like Limited can be more valuable because of rarity, they dont have the same draw as the signature series cards released every Wednesday.

Background

Baseball and autographs go back more than a century, with many of the game’s biggest pieces of memorabilia being signed items from before 1900. In the 20s and 30s, Babe Ruth became the game’s first real celebrity, and with his iconic stature, many people took autographs to a whole new level. Babe was notorious for signing baseballs by the hundreds, more than any other player of his time. Since that point, the autograph has become synonymous with sports, even to the point of parody.

Because autograph culture is woven into the fabric of the game, it was only a matter of time before trading cards got involved. Around 1990 and 1991, the first autograph baseball card was inserted into packs. Before then, fans took it upon themselves to get autographs on their favorite cards, but they were never available in packs. Fast forward to 2015, there are baseball card products that are almost 100% dedicated to bringing autograph content to collectors, some costing as much 500 dollars per pack.

When Bunt launched in 2012, it was a while before inserts really took hold. As the insert availability grew within the game, it should come as no shock that they would want autograph content to be a focus of that part of the experience. Even though its digital, the history of its necessary inclusion is well documented.

Community Views

Being that it was one of the rarest inserts in the game during the first years of Bunt, and remains so today, the community puts a value on the cards above and beyond 99% of the other cards in the game. Sigs are a pure collection piece, many of which have zero gameplay advantage. They are status symbols within the app, which means that a top collection of sigs will warrant all those ooohs and ahhhs that fuel collector’s vanity based existence in the collecting world.

They are also the cards that have the longest odds, which means that it can take a lot of effort and money to obtain the ones you want. With the added Variant sigs to the pool of chase cards, it only gets crazier.

4

Now, that doesnt mean that all sigs have the same value as the ones that populate the main set. Some of this is due to the marathon chase of collecting all the cards, but it also has to do with a bit of over-saturation. For many of the sigs that arent part of the main set, there isnt that chase that drives people to build a huge collection over the course of the entire season. The community of Bunt traders can be quite fickle about which sigs are valuable and which are less so, but overall, if a card has that signed name, its going to be desired.

The secondary part of the value comes from the rarity of the cards, as many of them remain the lowest count among many of the marathon inserts that are available. So far in 2015, there have been no sigs above 400, and even the dual sig is low at 660. Rarity always adds an element of trade value, as there arent as many floating around.

Chasing the Dragon

If you are like me, sigs drive your existence in the collecting part of the game more than anything. Its a rush to get the newest card, and its rare that one of your collection goes without a lock. Trading away sigs is a cardinal sin, and with every glance at a trade offer, that scan of the person’s card sheet for new targets becomes a habit.

Not everyone wants to get involved, though. Because of the cost, there are a lot of users who just cant afford to chase the most valuable cards in the game. To them, quantity can be just as important as quality, meaning their sigs will be traded to get a better collection of cards they like too.

It is an addiction of sorts. Its a way to stay on your toes, and when award card day rolls around, its like a second birthday party. I love that feeling, almost too much.

Transition to Other Apps

The success of the signature series program was immediately transitioned to Huddle and Kick from their inception, leading to a very similar culture among the new communities. Although Star Wars does not have a sig that they can use (actor’s likenesses are likely not covered or not desired under their digital license), that did not stop all the crossover traffic from deeming the Vintage series as the “sig equivalent.”

5

Huddle has a unique situation, as the gameplay is almost more important than the collecting aspect due to their licensing. Sigs on boosted cards take more precedence in that environment, but the concept still holds true. What is a Topps sports game without sigs?

Future

Last year during the playoffs, we got our first taste of Parallax sigs, as well as a few other concepts that played really well. There are a lot of opportunities before we reach a point where people just dont care any longer, and I believe that Bunt will definitely take some enormous risks in that space. Sigs are their bag, and it makes more sense to build and strengthen that brand rather than just maintain it.

I would guess some really fun stuff is going to be coming down the pike, and I would love to see stuff like animation and sound be brought into the equation. Of course, that opens up a few complicated licensing issues, but nothing insurmountable.

Ultimately, it lies on us and our desire to keep participating in the sig game. I know Im on board this wagon until the wheels fall off. Time will tell for everyone else.

Five Things I Would Love To See in Star Wars Card Trader

Being that the app is still very new by any stretch of the imagination, it may be a bit early to start lobbing ideas in this fashion. At the same time, when something is in it’s infancy, there is something to be said that this is the best time to be offering feedback on what the users are looking for. Here are some of the ideas I would love to see come to life.

1 – Movie Posters

Star Wars took the one sheet and single-handedly brought it back from obscurity back in the late 70s. The movie posters for each movie are a thing of legend – and for good reason. Where movie posters used to be a display of some of the best artistic talent, some of that luster was lost after the golden age of cinema concluded. The influence of the Star Wars movie posters has been felt as recently as today, even more so with the influx of superhero films that use the style. It would be great to do a six card run that celebrates the iconic stature of these posters. There is a reason people will pay thousands of dollars for the originals, lets bring them to the app.

2 – Weapons

We are already onto a new encouter with Bespin, something that I know a lot of the users love to chase. With Hoth and Geonosis, the sets dove deep into everything the planets had to offer, and I would love to see the same thing done for the different weapons in the movies. I mean, it could go as deep as trying to collect all the pieces of a lightsaber to get the finished product as the award card. How cool would that be?

3 – Anyone But Han Solo

We get it. Vintage Han in the Millenium Falcon is the best card in the game. That being said, he has more cards in the game than anyone else. Considering that Darth Vader is the number one movie villain of all time, and he has yet to be featured as prominently as many of the cartoons is almost a travesty in its own right. That being said, I love Han as a character, and see him as a defining character in the original trilogy. Regardless of my feelings, its time to go a different direction.

4 – Ships

The special effects in Star Wars were groundbreaking, if not only because of how well done they represented a futuristic era of space travel. The ships of the six movies are some of the most amazing accomplishments of that work, and they need to be celebrated. The game seems to focus a lot on the characters and less about the environment itself – something that made Star Wars so much more than just a movie series.

5 – Iconic Topps Sports Designs

One of the best things about the company that produces the app is that they have almost 75 years of baseball, football, basketball, and hockey designs. Some of them would be awesome to see translated into a digital format with the characters we love. Although we have gotten a taste of what they might look like through sketches in the recent Star Wars physical card products, I think there is room for more. They may want to keep the brands separate, but I think that is a huge mistake. Star Wars is all about nostalgia in much of its appeal, and this only furthers that sentiment. I would even go as far as saying this could be its own marathon.

I encourage everyone to reach out to them and continue to provide ideas, as I know they listen to what we have to say. If there is something you are looking for, make sure you let them know. Hopefully they can make some of our ideas real and you can see how your influence makes a difference.

Force Tip of the Day: What Happens After Marathon Week 10?

If you are like me, the completion of week 10 in the app is an event that you have been waiting for.  Not only is it when the first leg of the marathon ends, but it marks a pretty important milestone for many users. If you havent experienced the marathon in other games, it can have some pretty large impacts that might be felt until the final hurdle in week 30. I wanted to take some time to break it down.

Awards

We all wonder what is coming for the awards. We are all curious to see what the cards look like, what the subjects are, and of course whether or not the value is all that we put into it. Ill save you the trouble on that last part – award cards are never going to repay the effort or investment you put in. If you are looking to get a card that is worth more than Vintage Han, or Widevision Obi-wan, you should stop now. Its not going to happen.

Value of the Award Cards

The award cards, from my experience, are fun. They can be extremely valuable, sure, but they arent meant to be payment for your time and effort. There is a thing that most fail to understand, and it has to do with the experience of the game itself. People like ripping packs, and they love trading. Because award cards dont come from packs, some people dont care as much about them. Similarly, because the big three are the big three, those cards will always have a reputation of being the most valuable cards in the game. Nothing will change that.

Ongoing Marathon

Just because the first leg is over, doesnt mean its time to trade away all your cards in preparation for the next leg. Because there is a 30 week marathon in place, all cards must be kept in your collection until that is over. You can decide to only chase the one leg at a time, which might be the only option for some people, but I would at least try to make it work.

There will be an award for weeks 11-20, but to get the reward for 1-30, you need to have all the cards at once. That 30 week reward is going to be a very low count card, especially with how many people drop out along the way. Again, where is the fun in hanging up the lightsaber 1/3 of the way through?

Value Leading Up to the Award

This is where things can get NUTS. I remember back in Bunt and Huddle, people started scrambling about a week or two before the payout. They were giving quite a bit for the early cards that people missed, which in this case is already a TON. If you are hoarding, and want to make sure that you get your value, week 10 is the time to sell off your stash.

Although weeks 5-10 havent been all that valuable in many of the chases, there are a lot of reasons why they will be valuable leading up to the end of the marathon. Its worth your time to beat the rush and stock up just for that time frame.

Week 11 and Beyond

DO NOT expect that week 11 will be worth as much as week 1.  There were sets of very specific circumstances that led to week 1 being what it is, and that is very unlikely to be repeated. Although card counts may fluctuate, NOTHING will ever replicate what happened when the game first launched.

Instead, plan out which of the marathons you will want to continue. Its going to be 5 times as expensive, as there will not be 5 weeks of opening the 1k packs to keep everyone’s cost down.

Overall, its not about looking at a price guide or trying to figure out where you stand in the grand scheme of things. Just try to have fun, as that is what these marathons are meant to be about.

Sandlot Unwrapped: Breaking Down New Bunt Inserts – 5/8/15

There have been a lot of fun cards released over the past few weeks, including a few that enter new territory for 2015. There have been milestones and fun ideas, and I want to take some time to break them down.

Dual Sig – Alex Rodriguez and Willie Mays

1

Card Count: 660
Boost: NA
Collectability: Strong+
Playability: NA
Cool Factor: Triple

When I saw this released, I was intrigued to say the least. Although Dual Sigs were pretty common last year, released frequently throughout the year, we hadnt seen them yet in 2015. To be honest, I like the 2014 design a lot better, as it gave a lot more space for big photos of the players. Here, the focus is on the sigs. There is a lot of space that I feel could be better used, but that’s just me. Its clear they are modeling these cards off of dual sigs from the physical side of the business, and though its not as cool as 2014, the card is still very nice. A-Rod is a villain and then some, and he has gotten a lot of attention in Bunt lately because of his 661st home run, but this was a cool idea to pair him with Mays. Everyone loves Mays.

Milestone Card – Alex Rodriguez

3

Card Count: 250
Boost: 1x
Collectability: Extreme
Playability: Normal
Cool Factor: Single

I am not a fan of this design. Too much going on with all the text, and I am not sure where everything fits. Its very Yankee like, and I am not sure how that will transfer to other cards, IF it will indeed transfer at all. With the amount of cards in the “Headlines” set, including an A-Rod 661 card, im kind of wondering what the purpose is here? I know TOPPSMIKE is an A-Rod fan, but if there will be milestones AND headlines, its going to get confusing which belongs where. Some Milestones like Cutch’s 1000th hit would have gotten a card last year, but not this year? Im not seeing the purpose for this.

Signature Series – Felix Hernandez

2

Card Count: 250
Boost: 1x
Collectability: Extreme
Playability: Normal
Cool Factor: Home Run

I love this card. Easily my favorite sig of the year so far. Its a great picture, a great player, and a low card count. This is going to be one to keep. I had to give up two sigs to get it, and I dont regret it one bit. My only complaint is that this is the second Mariners sig in 6 weeks. That just doesnt fly for me, as I feel like they need to spread the love. At the same time, Felix is one player to make an exception for, as he has always been a Bunt all star. Lets just hope someone else gets a chance next week. If I remember correctly, we had the same issue with the Yankees last year, and there were a lot of unhappy Bunters.

Signature Series – Miguel Cabrera

4

Card Count: 275
Boost: 1x
Collectability: Extreme
Playability: Normal
Cool Factor: Home Run

Another strong entry in the signature series line, and though I HATE the Tigers, I know this card comes from the right place. I like that they are going with bigger names off the bat, as that is what this is meant for. Sigs are more about getting the all stars on the checklist, and less about deep cuts. This is perfect.

Archives – Cal Ripken Jr

5

Card Count: 1000
Boost: 1x
Collectability: Good+
Playability: Normal
Cool Factor: Home Run

This is going to be a new weekly (or so) Insert, and I think it works on a lot of levels. If you were around last year, cards like this were done each Thursday, and Im glad they are back for 2015. The retro cards are always going to strike a chord with people, and I think that this is a very good way to start it out. My only complaint is that Bunt seems to be going variant crazy, and I dont really think its necessary. It kind of dilutes the desire for the base card, and this particular set had the legs to stand on its own.

Set Review – Gallery of Greats Parallax

6

Love the design, love the Parallax, love the checklist, HATE THE PACK PRICE. I get that they are asking us to pay more for the Parallax look, but I dont think I am supportive of that. This set is a digitization of a set from the physical side, one of my favorites from 2015 Topps Series 1. Looks great here, and ill forgive the price this once.

Verdict: BUY!

Set Review – April League Leaders

7

This set was a throwaway last year because of how many of them there were. I think the design has improved 100x, and the cards are definitely more tradeable this time around. That being said, you still have to find the right person who is collecting them, and the card counts are still unlimited. Not a good situation, in that regard.

Verdict: SELL!

Interested to see what other surprises the Bunt team has in store, as I can tell that everything is staring to pick up fast.

Force Tip of the Day: Reviewing the Challenges with Vintage

Let me start this off by saying how impressed I was with the response we got from the team after last week’s horrible situation with the Vintage release. I feel like the team was put in a really unfortunate situation with the server crash, and they did everything right. They refunded coins, they took the card out of the chase, and they apologized…profusely. All good.

That being said, there is still a huge issue that comes around every Thursday. Vintage is the Sig equivalent in the game, but its more than that. So much more than that, I would actually go as far as saying that there is no more important card series in any of the four apps. When Bunt puts out a new sig, the app doesnt crash. Many will want it, many will chase it, but it doesnt do what Vintage does.

When you see the reaction that people have to Vintage, it has to do with the fact that every user in the game has no other outlet for their presence in the app. Collecting is all there is. As a result, the best series cause a lot of traffic that Topps needs to be better prepared to handle.

Once Vintage Han and Obi Wan Kenobi WV both started creeping up over 100 dollars in value on the secondary market, the release traffic increased. When people figured out you could pull the best card in the game from the cheapest pack in the game, everything changed. The entire user base planned their Thursdays around Vintage, because the best was easily attainable. Could you blame them? The set is the best selling example in the Topps Digital Universe!

When the pack switch happened, most users had to make a choice. Either spend a lot of money chasing all the sets like before, or pick a favorite and focus on that one. Guess what most people chose? Topps likely felt that the pricier chase would discourage enough people from opening that the servers could take it. At the same time, they decided to release a Vintage card that only had 1250 copies, which brought all those people back in. How could we not try for the lowest count card in the marathon? Everyone who decided to leave the chase was sucked right back into the riptide.

The difference of last week versus prior weeks is that you also had a new load of fresh meat from the Android launch that also wanted to get in on the action. That meant that even if some people had left the chase, they were likely replaced by the new users.

Overall, Vintage is a beast that needs to be planned for, and I hope there is someone at Topps who is trying to work through a strategy. In fact, they may not want to take all the frenzy away, as that is part of the allure of the set. Maybe they just need enough relief that it doesnt crash the game. How do you do that?

Around the time the slowdown started happening around the release of the Jawas card, something changed. It further changed a week or two later as well. They started announcing when the card was going to hit. I remember seeing TOPPSSTEVE tweet out that Vintage was dropping in such and such minutes for the first time, and loved it. No longer would I have to sit there and refresh all day. What I didnt realize, if I can see it, so can everyone else. It created some major traffic just from that.

Then when Master Access was granted an hour early, and announced in the app, the rest of the users saw what the twitter users were seeing. That was the first time opening a pack took 30 seconds per swipe.

If I am Topps, I dont announce it. I forgo the Master pack access in the name of server strength. Just drop it without warning, and there wont be traffic until everyone sees the article/push. Traffic will spike regardless, just not the the traffic jam from before. The servers should be able to withstand it.

Another main issue is the card count. There is no reason to continue card counts at or around 2000. Vintage will have value regardless, so its time to start increasing things for the sake of the game. Each card until week 10 should have a minimum of 3000 copies, even though these examples wont be as valuable as the older cards. I think it also goes without saying that even at 1500 copies, these examples wont be as valuable as the older cards. Why even try to recreate the magic, when you can have thousands more fishes trying to get a bite? It might also open more time for the big spenders to have an opportunity to do what they do best – spend money. The lower the card count, the less amount of time the card will be in packs. More time in packs means more bundles purchased. The card has enough popularity that a 3500 count will still encourage the same behavior.

I believe that the count contributes as much as the notification methods, and its a big reason why everyone needs to consider the best way to deliver the goods. Hell, offer a lottery if you want. Have people buy entries into the contest over the course of Wednesday. 5000 a ticket, and you can buy as many as you want. 3000 tickets will be pulled, and those people get the card(s). Its not even close to a favorable situation, but it prevents last week from happening. It also gives a chance to reward people in other ways. Include coin prizes and other card prizes in the giveaway. Who knows?

Overall, I dont like the Vintage release and I havent for weeks. Its stressful, its frustrating, and it takes more patience than should ever be necessary. My nerves are shot after its over, even more so if I get shut out. I dont feel like that is an experience that should have to happen in an online game. There has to be a better way, and I challenge everyone and the Topps team to find a way to make it work.

Force Tip of the Day: Approaching Timer Packs and Insert Value

Over the last few months, we have seen our fair share of inserts released in a “timer” format instead of card count format that limits circulation. Because of certain elements involved, these types of things can have a very large impact on value, and I want to talk about what that might mean.

Timer Insert Pack Format

Here is how it works, although there may be variations along the way. Basically, there is a pack available for only a certain amount of time. The card counts on the inserts in the packs have no limits, but the timer can definitely keep things contained, or blow it up depending on time released, character popularity, and word of mouth.

So far, we have seen the timer format with the Force Awakens cards, Green base parallel inserts, commemorative cards, and classic art cards. They have also used the timer format for the recently released Mint Press cards, but there are card counts that present a limit in those situations.

Timer Insert Value

Here is where things can get dicey. The longer the cards are available with no count, the more the card count will increase. Because people tend to want to get in as early and often as they can, the packs will sell very quickly.

The higher the card count gets, the more availability will be able to meet the demand in the trade economy. I have seen the commemorative cards get so inflated that they dont justify the investment in pulling them from packs, but I have also seen how the demand can increase regardless of count.

Strategy

Its easy for me to say that the best strategy is avoiding these cards until you know the value. I know its not that simple. If you wait, its entirely possible that the value will skyrocket to the point where you missed out on a great card.

Instead, I would pay close attention to the article. If you see that a set will have multiple bursts in the store, like we saw with Commemorative, see what happens in the first grouping before diving in. If you see that the card has a huge card count, its probably better just to pick one up through trades. This goes doubly so if the pack odds are really low. Many of the commemorative cards, classic art cards and the like are very easy to obtain via trade, as long as you have a nice insert to give. Some of them have a count close to 10k, which is very high.

If the first burst does not give much of a card count, you might want to jump in on a few packs, depending on the time when the packs hit the store. If something is released late at night, its going to have a lower count than during dinner time. Not as many people are on at that point.

With Greens, look at the character and the time in which it is released. Because you usually have 2 hours to gauge value, check the card count after the first 30 mins and the first 60 minutes. At that point, you should have a good idea what the count looks like.

For any card, counts over 5000 is really high. Anything below 2000 is right in that solid value range. If it is a popular character, that might have a different effect on the value too.

Bottom line, be strategic with your coin spending. Dont just buy packs just to buy, as that will get you in trouble with how much you have available when something really nice comes out.

May the 4th Be With You: Big Plans for Star Wars’ Biggest Day of the Year?

If you arent a Star Wars fan, May 4th probably means very little to you. For all the diehards out there, this is the day to celebrate all the fun that the movies and universe have brought to the world. In the app, this should be one of the more important days of the year, save December 18th, and I hope there will be some fireworks to celebrate.

maythe4thblack2_fullpic

Remember, with no sporting events to tie the app to, there is a need to add some events that focus on the mythos of the SW world. We saw some of it during Star Wars Celebration, and I am guessing there will be a lot of it today.

Like we have seen with the All Star game in Bunt and the Super Bowl in Huddle, things get really interesting with the cards that are released. We could see special inserts, special sets, or a big sale (some of which has already started). I would love to see movie magic take center stage, especially with the movie posters or some nostalgic element we havent gotten yet. Being that the universe has expanded so dramatically over the last few years, the app has had to stretch to accommodate. Today, at least for me, is more about the movies.

The @ToppsDigital account has already started a promotion to get a free Darth Sidious pack by tweeting out you with a pic of the app while wearing some SW gear, something that I would definitely take advantage of if you can. We also saw that the daily bonus was 40k today instead of the normal 25, which may or may not be related.

2015 NFL Draft: Huddle’s Bold Steps Pay Off

I love the draft. Its literally one of my favorite events of the entire year, more so than even some of the games themselves. Being that every team is adding to their pools of talent, it seems like the true beginning of the new year.

All that being said, nothing prepared me for what went down in Huddle last night and this weekend. For the first time in the history of the app, Huddle created cards live as picks were announced, providing the first digital cards of the new rookies within minutes. Never, in any of the four apps, has something of this magnitude been attempted, and it made a night filled with electricity full of more excitement.

The cards have been selling and trading well since release:

Jameis Winston Huddle Draft Series 2 Bronze

Marcus Mariota Huddle Draft Series 1 Blue

Melvin Gordon Huddle Draft Series 2 Bronze

Kevin White Huddle Draft Series 1 Blue

For reference, during the NFL draft last year, Bunt actually had more going on than Huddle did. They released a Russell Wilson signature series card to celebrate the NFL draft, where Huddle didnt really have much going on. This year, I was glued to the app, refreshing like crazy to get the newest card released into packs.

Even better was that each rookie got two different cards instead of just one, which was something that was interesting in its own right. You would think that creating and uploading one design live would be difficult, but two for each of the 32 picks? That’s turning a win into a blowout.

Much of 2014 was marred by the fact that Huddle was forced to use one picture, a team photo headshot, for every card they released. It put a focus on building the game on the actual points chase instead of the collection element, but that wasnt the case last night. Using dynamic action photos from the NFL combine and pro days made the draft cards that much better, as it was clear that even the team was sick of the same old stuff.

The card designs have always been a huge strength in the game, and these cards were no exception. Each series was dramatically different from the other, and both looked clean and fresh. The combine sketch style and the team color gem style both played very nicely, which is always the way it goes with Huddle’s look.

If you havent gotten on Huddle in a long time, this is the time to do so. Get these cards in your collection, chase your favorite team, and try to find your mojo in the game. Huddle has always been my main jam, and seeing the effort put forth by TOPPSMARC and the team last night was worth the wait.

Here is a gallery of some of the better rookies:
