Game Tip of the Day – 4/15

Its very easy to see all the amazing cards floating around, and want to get as many of them as you can. Like regular sports cards packs, all it takes is one for you to pull the best of the best. You dont need to be a VIP to get a nice card in a pack.

That being said, its much more strategic to build from the bottom than go straight for the big guns, and here is why.

Each week, the game gives out awards for hitting certain points thresholds, and those awards are worth major coins. You will need cards to gain points, and you cant do that without spending your coins wisely.

Added this week, you also get a limited edition card to match your winnings. Both of these prizes can be used to improve your collection. That is why I always suggest to fight the urge to buy the high end pack of SR cards and focus on the packs that offer lots of cards for cheap prices.

From my experience in Topps Huddle (football version of Bunt), the limited cards received from the weekly points chase are coveted, and can usually be traded for nice inserts as the collectors will want to fill out sets.

For reference, I currently own some of the best cards in Huddle and some nice cards in Bunt – I have only pulled 1 signature card from a pack in my career. Everything else has been from the bottom up through trading. Think of the guy who started with a red paper clip and traded his way to a house – that is the way this game works.

New Bunt Cards Unwrapped – 4/14

Some new cards are hitting the app today, including one that I find to be very valuable considering some of the circumstances behind it. Here are some write ups on whether the cards are worth chasing for playability or collectability.

AL/NL POW – Carlos Beltran

Playability Rating (This Week) – CaptureCaptureCaptureCapture
Playability Rating (Future) – CaptureCapture
Collectability – Extreme

Capture2

Beltran has zero cards in the game, and this card is a doozy to have as his first. Carrying a 3x boost is a big deal first time around and I really think this is going to be one of the more coveted inserts of the week. Nice card.

AL/NL POW – Justin Upton

Playability Rating (This Week) – CaptureCaptureCaptureCapture
Playability Rating (Future) – CaptureCapture
Collectability – Strong

Capture

Here is the thing. Upton has been raking this week, but he has a big problem with the number of potential strikeouts. At a 3x boost, that is a big loss of points if he has a bad game.

Fired Up – Yadier Molina

Playability Rating  – CaptureCapture
Collectability – Strong

I love this set, and I think its going to stand the test of time in terms of value in the app. The “Pokémon” award (gotta catch em all) for this set isn’t huge, so current value will likely be long term as well.

Black Limited 3x Boost – David Wright

Playability Rating  – CaptureCaptureCaptureCapture
Collectability – Extreme

Capture

This is the first of what I expect to be many cards tied to in app money purchases, of which I think is a great win for those that can pull it. Wright is dropping off as of the last few years in performance, but he is still one of the more recognizable players in the game. The fact that only 250 of these will be given out is a big deal, and this may be on the level of a signature if no more are released.

Card Count Primer for Newer Users

I have had a lot of questions through twitter lately on the card count indicator on the back of each Bunt Card. Its located in the bottom left corner of the back of the card, which you can access by tapping the card from your card list, and tapping again near one of the corners to flip it over.

What is the Card Count?

Card count is the number of that particular card in circulation game wide.

Here is how to access the count:

Additionally, once a user has a card, its theirs unless they trade it away. Card counts may be inflated because users will leave the game, but their cards stay active. Just because there are 1500 of the card in the count, doesn’t mean all 1500 will be available for trading.

Secondarily, unless a card is sold out as indicated on the card sheet, more will likely (but not always) be available in packs. That’s why its usually better to trade inserts and hot cards when the count is lower – as they will be more valuable to the collectors that want them. Less supply = more demand.

The card count indicator is updated daily as more users open packs. Be advised that as card counts increase, the card values decrease. Not always though.

Understanding card counts when trading

  • 0 – card is brand new, likely. Does not mean there are 0 in circulation though. To see if any have been pulled from packs, pull up the “all cards” card sheet and try initiating a trade. This number will increase after the next day’s updates.
  • 1-100 – Incredibly rare (at this point). SR inserts with this card count are going to be very hard to pull and very hard to trade for. Don’t offer commons.
  • 100-1000 – These cards are a bit more available, but when it comes to inserts, you will still have to come strong when trading.
  • 1000-5000 – Inserts can be in this range, especially if they are released early and are still in packs. Still worth considering they will be harder to get. Most of the Super Rare base cards are going to fall in this category at this point, and are likely to keep going up as more are pulled from packs.
  • 5000+ – Most of the non-super rares will be above 5000, even at this point. When trading at this level, its best to consider position, player popularity, and card playability.

How do Card Counts and Rarity Overlap?

Super Rare cards are obviously going to be the hardest to pull in the game, but not every super rare is created equal. SR gold base cards are going to be less valuable in most cases than super rare inserts. Trading by rarity at most levels will work, but not when it comes to inserts versus base cards.

Super rare inserts are the top pulls, and Scarce/Rare inserts are still likely more valuable than the gold super rare base cards. Don’t expect a collector to give up their super rare insert card for your super rare base card. It just rarely shakes out that way.

Commons are still valuable in the game because collecting them gets coins when team sets are completed. You may need to trade uncommon and rare colored cards for uncommons because of this fact.

If you have more questions – shoot me a same card trade (1:1) with a message in game. Ill try my best to answer.

Game Tip of the Day – 4/14

When I sit down to trade, I really sit down to trade. I want to get as much done as possible. Its easy to get caught up in sending out a bunch of trades at a time.

That being said, dont offer the same card over and over again – even if its with different traders. Pending offers will stack up, and if someone accepts – all that work you did will be gone. Once the card is accepted, even if you have multiples, the rest of the trades will be voided.

Diversify your offers!

Plays of the Day – 4/14

All night games tonight, so your starting lineup may experience some major traffic. Mondays are tough with half a slate of games, so choose wisely.

TB vs BAL

Pitchers – Chen is one of the only pitchers of the day for any game, so its going to be a must play. He has been good through his two starts so far, so it shouldnt be a disaster.

Hitters – I like former rookie of the year Wil Myers in this game. He has success against BAL, and this looks like a good game for him. He has had some negative games as of late, but this is his day. Longoria SR is also a good play.

ATL vs PHI

Pitchers – No pitchers in this game have cards

Hitters – Justin Upton has been on a tear, hitting four HR in his last four games. START him. For PHI, Ryan Howard had ANOTHER good game yesterday and should be in your lineup.

WAS vs MIA

Pitchers – Jordan Zimmermann is starting and I would play him. Not many pitchers going today.

Hitters – If you have Giancarlo Stanton, I would play him too. He has had back to back negative games only once this season. Adam LaRoche is coming off another game with a HR, and as a 1B, he should go too.

PIT vs CIN

Pitchers – no pitchers have cards in the game

Hitters – I said to start Joey Votto yesterday, and you reaped the rewards if you did. Today is no different. He is one of the hottest in the game. PIT’s pitching hasnt been all that great this year, and he should have another big game.

SEA vs TEX

Pitchers – no pitchers have cards in the game

Hitters – Most of the hitters available here are pretty cold, but if you have to start someone, I would go with Alex Rios or Justin Smoak.

STL vs MIL

Pitchers – Lance Lynn is a tough start here, only because MIL is literally the best team in baseball. I would only start him if you dont have any of the other pitchers going today.

Hitters – The entire Brewers lineup? Ha. Yadier Molina and Matt Adams continue to be good starts with almost every game in positive points. Matt Carpenter is also a goodie for the Cardinals. Other than that, Gomez and Lucroy for the Brew Crew are doing amazing.

NYM vs ARI

Pitchers – Wheeler is probably the start of the day, although he may give up some HR to ARI’s lineup.

Hitters – Aaron Hill has been putting up solid points lately, as has Goldschmidt. I would start either.

OAK vs LAA

Pitchers – no pitchers have cards in the game

Hitters – Trout is a GREAT start here, he has been playing well as of late, but Cespedes and Donaldson are also nice. With earlier games getting done, there will be room for all of them.

COL vs SD

Pitchers – Stults is a good play here, with most of the earlier game pitchers being done.

Hitters – Believe it or not, Yonder Alonso may be the safest play in this game. Tulo is always good for a few points too.

Good luck everyone, the new week starts today! Get going on those awards!

Plays of the Day – 4/13

If you are looking to score some points today, here are some of the cards I would consider adding to your lineup as the games start.

TB vs CIN

Pitchers – No cards for the starters are in the game

Hitters – Joey Votto has been a great start over the last few days, and because he has had all levels of rarity since day one, he can be pretty easy to get. If you have one of the SR Longoria cards, he might be worth a look too, but they are harder to get in your collection due to rarity.

WAS vs ATL

Pitchers – No cards for the starters are in the game

Hitters – Justin Upton has had 3 ridiculous point totals in a row, but he is always a risk due to the fact that he strikes out a lot and plays in the OF. Im much more likely to play Adam Laroche or Jayson Werth, but with only a few games going at noon, you can add Upton for his first few at bats before the second wave of games starts.

TOR vs BAL

Pitchers – Buehrle is a bit of a risk because of his age and lack of control over the last few starts, but I am playing him regardless. When he is locked in, he is tough to beat. Worth the risk.

Hitters – Melky Cabrera and Jose Bautista have been a solid play since day one. With both just recently getting more levels of rarity, pick up a boost or too and add them to your lineup.

MIA vs PHI

Pitchers – Henderson Alvarez is a solid start. I would definitely play him as long as he in the game. He has gotten some Ks along with his IP, so this could be a higher scoring pitcher card for the day.

Hitters – Ryan Howard has done well as of late, and its hard to end in negative points as a 1B with a pitcher who gets lots of ground balls.

PIT vs MIL

Pitchers – Kyle Lohse is a great start today as Pitt has not been all that hot at the plate and the Brewers are playing out of their mind. They have a great defensive team, and Lohse should have a lot of run support to calm him down.

Hitters – START JONATHAN LUCROY AND CARLOS GOMEZ. All I have to say about that. Some of the hottest hitters in the game right now.

KAN vs MIN

Pitchers – I am advising against starting Kevin Correia, as he is about as risky a start as any pitcher right now. KC has some big bats in Butler and Gordon, and he gives up HR which kills point value. If you have no one else, go for it, but there are a lot of games going on at this point so it may be better to start someone else.

Hitters – I love Joe Mauer, and his card has only had one game all season in negative points. That is pretty impressive. Cheap win for some points if you are starving. Check the MLB.com lineup though – he may be getting a day off today.

CLE vs CWS

Pitchers – Both Kluber and Quintana are worth a look for some points. Im more likely to start Kluber against the White Sox than Quintana against Kipnis, Santana and the more powerful indians lineup though.

Hitters – Jason Kipnis has been a beast as of late when it comes to points, plus he gets the points for all the POs at 2B.

CHC vs STL

Pitchers – No pitchers have cards in the game

Hitters – Rizzo has been amazing all year, add him for some points today. I dont see any negative points on his record. Matt Adams is another great start with some major potential for power. Rizzo has to face Wacha, which I am a bit more wary of than Jackson.

HOU vs TEX

Pitchers – Olberholzer has been a solid start if you have him. He may give up some runs against TEX’s lineup, but Beltre is out, so he may not have as many issues.

Batters – Definitely start Elvis Andrus. Playing great in points lately.

NYM vs ANA

Pitchers – CJ Wilson is maybe one of the best starts for a pitcher today. Should come away with some points. Watch him blow it just because I said this.

Hitters – Trout if you must. Has had a few good games in a row, but nothing spectacular lately. Not facing a great pitcher, so that is a plus.

COL vs SFG

Pitchers – No pitchers have cards in the game

Hitters – Hard to argue with starting last week’s POW in Charlie Blackmon, but any of the COL infield is worth a look. All have been playing great.

LOS vs ARI

Pitchers – Cahill is not a horrible start, but the Dodgers have been hitting well as of late. A little bit of a risk.

Hitters – Adrian Gonzales is a great play at first. Has had a great week so far, pts potential across the board including defense.

OAK vs SEA

Pitchers – No pitchers have cards in the game

Hitters – I like Cespedes as a playable card as of late, but Smoak is really the play for hitters. Donaldson has had too many negative games for me to play him regularly.

DET vs SD

Pitchers – SCHERZER! Rarely a bad game and one of the best ERA type pitchers with some K potential.

Hitters – You can play Cabrera because there are not many other people going at this point. Hasnt had a ridiculous year so far, but he will eventually come around.

BOS vs NYY

Pitchers – No pitchers have cards in the game

Hitters – I cant believe I am saying this but all the guys aside from Gardner who have cards in the game are a big risk. At least there will be a SNB insert release! That’s always fun.

My Tips for Newer Bunt Fans!

I posted a bunch of tips for newer users today on Twitter, and it got a lot of discussion around resources for newer users to eventually understand the nuances of the game. Like real baseball, there are a lot of unwritten rules. To really be successful, you need to know them well.

Making the most of top gaming elements

  • To score enough to hit the award platforms, you will need to change your lineup at least 2-3 times per day. Once for the afternoon games, one for the night games and once for the west coast night games.
  • There is no limit to how many times you change your lineup per day, which means you can technically switch out your players each inning as long as you have enough plays at your disposal
  • You can play more than one card of any player at any time in your starting lineup, so try to get more copies of your top scoring cards to play multiples for multiple points
  • At the current moment, its hard to pass over a pitcher for the starting lineup. They rarely score in negative point totals, and can basically be trusted to anchor your starting line up
  • Watch the MLB.com scores page, which details current pitchers and batters, as well as outs and baserunners. If you want to go into super high focus mode, you can switch batters into your lineup when there are runners in scoring position, or pitchers when their team is on defense.

Trading on the App

  • You will not be able to be a top player without trading. Its one of the most important elements of the game, no doubt about it
  • Start at the bottom and work your way up. You will get to open a lot of packs during the course of the game, so dont think you need to shoot for the stars from the beginning.
  • Go on the fan feed and search out players that have a high trader score and a high collection score by their name. They will likely have a ton of duplicate cards and will trade you commons and boosts for next to nothing.
  • Be conscious of who you are trading with! Collectors will value rarity over gameplay and gamers will want multiple copies of high scoring cards. If you go into someone’s profile, and see they have a ton of nice cards but not many dupes, they may be a collector. Gamers will have tons of boosts and high scoring cards in multiples.
  • For a collector, dont offer on their single cards, and be very conscious of the card count number on the back of the card. If you have a low count card that they want, you will be golden. But dont expect them to part with their prized possessions easily.
  • For gamers, I would suggest offering more on the cards with dupes above nine. It means that they have more of that player than they can play at one time. They may be saving trade bait for new cards, so dont lowball them and expect them to be happy.
  • Sigs are the highest value cards in the game, dont offer commons and non-inserts for any of these cards. It will only cause friction and low trader scores. I had to go 9-1 to get my first sig. Not kidding.
  • I would suggest against lowballing any player when it comes to high value cards. When it comes to lower value cards, lowball away. You never know, but be prepared to be ignored if you offer junk for nice stuff.
  • Never offer more than one trade at a time to anyone. Give them time to respond to an offer before offering again.
  • If a player declines your trade without a counter, I would suggest against offering again on that card for at least a few hours. No one likes being harassed.
  • New inserts are always worth more than older inserts. If a new insert is released, it automatically becomes more valuable than older inserts of that same rarity. Dont expect to trade 1-1 for a new card with an old card. Collectors are rabid, so they will overpay, and collectors will hold out for a good offer.

Buying Cards and Packs

  • Daily coin bonus is your lifeblood, so get into the app at least once per day. You can either save up for a nicer pack of cards, or open some lower packs each day. My advice is to open the 500 coin 3 card packs at first to build your collection, and once you have some cards, switch over to save mode and buy the nicer packs that include SRs.
  • I will never buy a pack in the morning. Wait until the day’s releases are done before you start buying packs. Wait until 6 or 7 pm to spend your coins. Its hard to wait, I know, but you will thank me.
  • In all likelihood you will need to buy coins at some point to be competitive. Its just hard to beat the people who do if you choose not to. You dont have to spend a lot, but its good to invest 10-20 bucks a month if you really want to get nice stuff.

Shoot me a same card 1-1 trade and add comments in the box if you have any questions or need other advice. Always happy to help.

The Bunt List – Week of 4/12: Top Cards of the Week

Top 10 Valuable Cards in the App – As of 4/12:

1. SR Mike Trout Signature Series (100) – 4 star playability – high scoring batter with a rarity that makes this incredibly valuable. He is also the spokesman for the game.

2. SR Derek Jeter Signature Series (100) – 2 star playability – lower scoring batter with a very high degree of rarity. Lots of collectors on the app are Yankee fans, which will help it stay valuable in his retirement year.

3. SR Justin Verlander Signature Series (250) – 5 star playability – high scoring pitcher, and a new sig will always push this card up the list. Not as rare as the others, but still valuable.

4. SR Andrew McCutchen Signature Series (500) – 3 star playability – slow start to the season has hurt this card’s playability. But as a signature, it will still be valuable.

5.  SR Hank Aaron Golden Moments (250) – Not playable – The card looks great, and though it doesnt score, its rare as can be. Its already sold out, so collectors will want this bad.

6. SR Mike Trout Future is Now (8) – 4 star playability – Trout is arguably the most popular player in baseball, and this card is brand new. Cool looking insert, with only 8 copies pulled so far. Not sold out, so this will likely drop.

7. SR Mike Trout Saber Star (337) – 4 star playability – Again Trout makes the list – only because you had to collect a set to get this card. Its sold out, so this may be the only valuable Saber Star that exists. The rest have fallen off the value spectrum and can be had for commons in some cases.

8. SR Jose Fernandez Future is Now (258) – 5 star playability – The reason this card is so valuable is because he has only 2 cards in the game. I like this one better because it looks so cool, but its basically interchangeable with the POW card from week.

9. SR Bryce Harper Future is Now (116) – 3 star playability – The reason I put this higher than Puig , who has a lower card count, is because Harper has only 1 other card in the game, both of which are SR. Not a lot of Harper to go around which creates problems for collectors that want a popular player.

10. SR Yasiel Puig Future is Now (21) – 3 star playability –  As more people pull these cards, the value will crash. Same with the other FIN cards. Just the way it is. I would warn against trading the house for these cards.

Falling fast – Cards on their way down

1. All Opening Day cards – now that other inserts have come out, these cards can be traded for commons and boosts. I feel for all the people that traded a ton for these cards.

2. Non-SR Saber Stars – although the SR cards like Cabrera, Cano, and Hernandez still have some nicer value, the common cards are dropping fast. Unfortunate, because these cards are pretty cool. Now that the reward cards have been given out, not many people are collecting them any more.

3. Blomberg Golden Moment – Not a fan of this card, and because no one had heard of him other than the baseball historians of Bunt, he wasnt exactly popular.

On the Rise – Cards to consider chasing

1. SR Gold Pitchers – Now that most of the gamers have found out that the pitchers are the top cards in the game, these cards are now commanding almost 3-1 on SR to SR trades.

2. Bunt on Deck – these cards were given to new players, and immediately sold out. That means that people will want them. Additionally, with attrition rates being higher on newer players, some of these cards may be lost forever once the players leave.

Hot Now – But look out!

Ozzie Smith TBT (676) – As much as I love this card, it will be in packs for a long time from what it looks like. I would be cautious before trading a lot for this card. As more people pull it the value will drop. Im still not sure if it is in the normal SR packs, but if it is, that is not good news for value. If the card is out of packs, get one while you can.

My top gaming cards of the week

1. Yu Darvish – Even though he started the year on the DL, he has been HOT HOT HOT over his last few starts. He put up over 500 points on his SR 100% boost on Friday, which was a huge bump after putting up a ton with his previous game. Wow.

2. Andrew Cashner – The guy put up a one hitter complete game and one of the highest scoring performances of the year so far. I think Darvish is still the better play because of confidence in his continued points potential, but Cashner is lighting it up right now.

Check back next week for a new Bunt list and updated top 10!
