2015 Topps Bunt Series 2 – Player Target List

With the release of Series 2 on the physical side, we are finally going to reach a point where new base cards should be on their way almost immediately. Because Bunt designs are digitizations of their physical counterparts, the cards in the app have to wait for the Series 2 launch to be released. Looks like we might be getting some very shortly based on the article, and I cannot wait. Here are the best players that should be making their base debut.

Kris Bryant – Cubs

2015-Topps-Series-2-Baseball-Kris-Bryant-RC-215x300

Stat Line: .298 / 8 HR / 39 RBI / .886 OPS (55 games)

I am putting him on this list because he is the main rookie that half of the physical card hobby is focusing on. In bunt, he has had a few cards already, but his play has been awesome enough that its time to get him some boosted cards. To do what he has done at the plate in 23 games is pretty impressive.

Johnny Cueto – Reds

3

Stat Line: 2.98 ERA / 86K / .949 WHIP

Even though he hasnt been DOMINANT like he was at the beginning of last year, he has a pretty nice line for a pitcher in Bunt. He has a lower WHIP to keep those points he gets from IP up and the Ks help. He should come around in the second half of the year.

TOP PICKUP: Prince Fielder – Rangers

Capture

Stat Line: .344 / 11 HR / 47 RBI / .933 OPS

This has to be one of the bigger surprises of the year, as Prince is literally kicking some ass. leading the AL in batting with a huge power number clip is Bunt heaven. He is going to be a must play every night, especially if the Rangers go deep into the pennant chase.

Albert Pujols – Angels

5

Stat Line: .273 / 19 HR / 37 RBI / .870 OPS

I have always been a Pujols fan, as he started to be his HOF self right around the time I got back into baseball. He has dipped lately as of his stats, but he sure has had a good start to 2015. Those HRs alone are worth taking a look at his card.

Matt Harvey – Mets

4

Stat Line: 3.32 ERA / 73K / .931 WHIP

I like Harvey this year, coming back from an injury season. His WHIP is low enough for anchor consideration in your Bunt lineup and his ERA is pretty low considering we are almost halfway through the season.

Gerrit Cole – Pirates

Capture

Stat Line: 1.71 ERA / 93K / 1.083 WHIP

Cole is probably one of the best pitchers in the NL from a stats perspective, and in Bunt, he is right there as well. He eats up innings and has a low ERA, and his above 1 WHIP is offset by his Ks. He will be a great person to stock up on for contests.

TOP PICKUP: Max Scherzer – Nationals

2

Stat Line: 1.93 ERA / 113 K / .879 WHIP

This guy was basically cast aside by Detroit because of a weird arm angle in the way he pitches. They just didnt want to risk a big contract on a pitcher who has yet to go through the whole injury process that happens to everyone these days. Well, Scherzer is the Cy Young leader at the moment in Bunt, and is the one guy you MUST pick up when he is released. Huge K numbers and a tiny WHIP number will be a guy you will start every single time he plays, even against the best lineups in the league.

Good luck on your acquisitions everyone!

2015 Topps Series 2 Your First Look at Bunt PLAYER Code Cards

I posted earlier today about the issues surrounding the giveaway for 2015 Bunt coins in packs of Topps Series 2 Baseball. There was another element at play that have turned out to be very worth our attention – the player code cards. Well, I was able to acquire one of these special cards from a breaker at my local shop, and they look to be as good as advertised.

Check it out:

CHuNuBeUkAAUtpN

Yes – you see that right, they are /25 copies only, AND 5x boost PERMANENTLY! With how rare these cards are, and how powerful they are in the game, I think it goes without saying that these could be highly sought after in just about every way. Im pumped I was able to get my hands on it!

How they work is there is a long code on the back that you redeem at a website on the Topps.com website. I am going to guess that the card will then be delivered to you in the game.

The checklist is posted on this site a few days back, with some of the top players in the game. To get a shot at one of these, they are ONLY in Topps Series 2 Hobby Packs, at odds of 1:917 packs. Going to be a rare pull for sure.

Very cool promotion here, even though many of these cards may never see the light of day. If you pull one or get one, consider yourself one of the lucky ones.

Bunt Code Cards In Topps Series 2 – UPDATE

I posted this morning about the limited action that surrounded the codes from Series 2 Baseball. Sometime since the launch of the site yesterday, the limitation on the one code per account was removed. Seems like the feedback provided by users led to a re-evaluation of the limitation and that was removed.

This promotion is a BIG win for everyone involved, especially as the new unlimited format becomes live. It should serve as much as cross over tool for physical over to Bunt as it will Bunt over to physical. This makes me so happy, I cant even put it into words.

I encourage you all to buy some boxes of Series 2 and find some of these awesome code cards. Even though most will be 1000 coins, there are some big prizes to be had. Most ebay auctions are selling them at around a buck a piece, which is a bit more than I would be willing to pay. I would see if you can negotiate a bulk deal, and get a chance at a bunch at a time.

Remember, current exchange rates are about .19 cents per 1000 coins, and shipping alone is more than that. I would make sure you can get a lot of them to offset the shipping cost or at least get the code emailed by the seller.

Happy hunting everyone!

New Teal Set in Star Wars Card Trader Previews New Round of Base Cards?

This morning, Topps released 5 new teal cards onto the Star Wars Card Trader sheet, and for the first time, we are seeing base cards that dont exist in the normal parallels.

Many of us have speculated that this is the first preview of the next round of base cards, most of which we have been waiting quite a while for. If you have been in the app since day one, pretty easy to guess that your card sheet is looking something like mine. You probably have at least 50 copies of each common, and a new round of base could add a fresh and welcome departure from that.

The five released are:

  • Sarlacc (in all its glory)
  • Ewok
  • Rancor (YES!)
  • Dianoga
  • Fixer Loneozner

CHozBTVWsAA0is1

To see the Sarlacc pit get its time in the sun along side the Rancor is awesome, and though the Ewok card isnt all that special, it does give us the first base card representing a GROUP of people instead of one representative. Could there be a Stormtrooper card on the way? Imperial Guard?

Im not sure who the others are, but there will be a lot of those cards coming. There are only a finite group of characters until the new movie is released, so I guess we will have to make due with the C and D list of guys from background in the first six episodes and cartoons.

Either way – im very excited to see what is coming.

More Topps Bunt News for Upcoming Topps Baseball Products

I thought this was pretty big news last week when we got word that Bunt would be a featured part of Series 2 with special player code cards that were made visible on the checklist reveal.

Now that we have gotten a sales sheet for Topps Update, as well as some information from someone who opens a ton of Topps’ boxes, I think there is more information to draw conclusions.

Before we get started, here is the part of the sell sheet I was referring to:

Capture

Here is what we can take away. First off, it looks like the player code cards are pretty rare – numbered to ONLY 25. In a product like this, something that is 25 or less is like finding a needle in a haystack. Those are going to be EXTREMELY tough pulls.

One would have to guess that the group of cards that are in Series 2 will be very similar if not identical in the way they are structured. This means that for Series 2, the player cards are not a huge part of the promotion, but are definitely worth keeping your eye out for.

We also see that there is a group of Bunt “code cards” that are redeemable for coins in the game. Based on the history of codes in the Topps products, these should be READILY available in every Topps Update Jumbo or Hobby pack. I think I might need to be opening some boxes now, especially if Bunt codes are a big part.

Now, we dont have information of Bunt codes in Series 2, but its a definite possibility based on pack odds provided by one of the people I follow on Twitter. Based on pack odds printed on the Series 2 wrapper, he said that the code cards should be available, but we will have to find out if his information is correct. If so, look out – there could be a BIG reason to go buy some packs of cards this Wednesday when Series 2 hits shelves.

Either way, this is going to open up the physical card world for many people who have likely not opened many packs over the last few years. If you need any information – I have a physical card site at www.sportscardsuncensored.com that functions as a sister site to this one. Lots of information is available there.

The Aura of the 1/1 – Master Series Highlights a Master Chase

Over the weekend, Bunt released five 1/1 base cards in special packs. If you are curious as to what I am talking about – these cards only have 1 copy.

Although 1/1s have been given out for contests and tournaments, or pulled in packs for some insert sets,  there has never been base cards with that designation in the game. Coming on the heels of big announcements from the release of Topps Series 2 with a Bunt inclusion, this is some pretty big news.

For good reason, 1/1s of this nature are relatively controversial. They highlight the ultimate type of chase for users with deep pockets, and this is further exacerbated by the 50k pack price that was installed along side it. Each pack offers 3 cards, blue and gold, with a 1:4000 shot at one of the five 1/1s.

Capture

In the digital side of things, these type of cards are still very rare and very difficult to obtain. On the physical side, its much less so, with 1/1s driving the high end secondary market more than any other type of card. I own a number of the cards in physical, which usually signify a special type of content included. We saw a glimpse of that with the Andrew McCutchen 1/1 MLB Logo relic, which is a common usage of the designation on the physical side as well.

This isnt the first time 1/1 parallels of the base cards have been offered in the Topps apps, as last year, Huddle went nuts when each team got one player in a special Gold Helmet parallel 1/1 during the last weeks of the 2014 season. The packs were much cheaper, and being that they were so cheap, the cards sold out in less than 5 minutes. The velvet rope price point on the bunt side will stretch it out a bit longer.

I understand that some users are upset that Topps is releasing cards that they have a very small shot at, but I think this is a direction that isnt meant for everyone to be on board with. Whereas we got Bazooka cards at a very accessible rate for some users, the one of ones will be aimed at the complete other side of the spectrum. These are MEANT to be difficult, and that means only a few people will get the joy of having them in their collection.

My only complaint is that the border isnt a different color or something like that, to showcase just how special these cards really are, but I guess that is something that wasnt available. I have asked the team for “Superfractor” parallels of the base cards for a long time, which have a distinctive pattern to highlight the designation of the card. These Superfractors are some of the most expensive cards in existence, and it would be very nice to see them come to Bunt. For reference of how special they are – the 2009 Bowman Chrome Mike Trout rookie superfractor autograph is valued at over $50,000, though its unlikely it will ever be for sale again.

I dont know about you, but I am very interested to see how far the 1/1 can go over the remaining weeks of the season, as its clear to me that there is a high demand for the cards.

Force Tip of the Day – Insert Collecting By Color

Over the last few weeks, Star Wars sets have changed a bit. Where it used to be that a set had one or two variants, now they have four or five. In some ways, this can very good for the people who want to collect, where as other times it can be annoying. I wanted to walk through some of my thoughts after spending time chasing some recent sets.

Background

Its worth discussing that the first of the weekly sets had 2 variants to it. Nightbrothers had the base, the red and the inverse black. I mean, this isnt a brand new concept, and it should be expected that Topps wants to maximize the potential of each potential set. Maximize is a relative term, as it can mean anything from profit to accessibility. Although none of the weekly sets have had a variant – YET – the subsidiary inserts have had a relative pattern of parallels. To say this is brand new, isnt really accurate. To say they have expanded upon an existing structure is likely a better way of looking at it.

Why More Parallels Are a Good Thing

I have said it time and time again, no one likes to open packs and walk away empty handed. Its literally the worst feeling in the game, other than getting your stuff stolen by a scammer. Adding more content to packs is something that many people will find to be welcome, even if it means that the card counts have to be higher to justify it.

Lets be completely honest with ourselves and really think about it. Is anyone really upset that they pull a few extra inserts in their packs? I want to see that argument played out, because I fail to see how that is something to be upset about. Even if the inserts themselves have very little value overall, they do provide something that Star Wars has been lacking since the pack structure change.

Accessibility for free players is a huge thing for the majority of the people who play the game. Although there is a contingent of users who are spending a crapload of money every day, there are others who are trying to scrape by with what they can. Topps wants to get as many people to buy those credit bundles as they can, and if you are basically guaranteed an insert from certain sets with the cheapest bundle bought, that could inspire a lot more purchases. With more purchases comes more people who are looking to trade, buy and sell their cards, which is good for the overall economy.

Why More Parallels Are a Bad Thing

The only real argument I can muster on this one, is continuity and complexity of the sets. With more parallels, there are so many different elements to chase, especially when the packs can be separated into Master and Regular flavors. I have had a few instances of opening a master pack of a set and not getting the cards I was expecting, mainly because they were only available in the regular packs.

When you consider how complicated some of the releases have been, to the point where the packs get messed up (Gold Annakin situation from yesterday), it might be better to think about a more straightforward approach. I like that they are trying to keep things fresh, but let me walk you through what the release was like for the posters:

  • White posters were only available in the flash pack, which was available at very specific times
  • Blue posters were only available for 48 hours
  • Gold posters were a bundle attachment
  • Green and red were the normal inserts

I mean, for a new user, that is a daunting structure to understand – made even more difficult when trying to trade and determining value. The Shadowboxes set is a pretty similar situation in number, but very much more straightforward. I think the simplicity of the release should be something of major focus, and that gets more apparent each time a new set comes out.

Bottom line, I expect the Topps team to do what they can to get the most money flowing through the pipeline. I had a very fun time tracking down all the blue posters, and busting shadowboxes packs too. This discussion is one I am seeing more and more frequently, and if you feel things should be done a certain way, I would encourage you to make your voice hear in a constructive way. Topps does listen quite a bit, and they value that type of feedback. I hope more people find a way to give as much as they can.

Topps Bunt Has a Fever, and the Only Prescription is More Cowbell!

Over the last few years, there has been a number of times where Bunt has brought celebrity content to the app. Most recently, Jim Breuer was given his own card and signature, as well as Paul Rudd back during the World Series last year. As of yesterday, we get the best of that content to date in the Will Ferrell inserts digitized from their counterparts in 2015 Topps Archives baseball.

For those of you who havent seen, Ferrell pulled a relatively impressive feat of playing all nine positions for nine different teams during Spring Training this year. To commemorate the day, Topps had acquired the rights to produce cards of Ferrell in each of the uniforms he played in. I am ridiculously excited that Bunt was able to get the cards as well, as it will make for a very fun chase.

On the physical side, the Ferrell cards are already some of the more popular baseball cards of the year, especially for his extremely rare autograph card. A few of them have already sold for hundreds of dollars, and the Dodgers one sold for 2k! Wow. Just wow.

Although I wish we would get the autograph card as a variant of some sort in Bunt, it doesnt look like that is in the cards for now.

Stuff like this is always fun for me, as it breaks from the norm of the usual inserts that Bunt puts out on a regular basis. Its fun to chase down all the cards, and if it isnt up your alley, no big deal.

At least for me, Ferrell’s movies have always been among my favorites, and though he may be a polarizing comedian, his popularity is undeniable.

Topps Bunt Code Cards Coming to Topps Baseball Series 2?

For a very long time, I have pleaded with the guys who make Topps Baseball to involve Bunt into the flagship product in any way they can. Whether it be code cards for packs or coins, or even special codes on the back of the cards that give access to that player in the game. As many times as I made that suggestion, as many times I was told, “sorry, that’s just not something we are looking to do at this point.”

Well, my friends, with the release of the checklist for Series 2, it looks like my dream has come true. With the release of the checklist for Topps Baseball series 2, included is a special section. There is a checklist of designated “code cards” for Bunt that was included along with the rest of the set.

Here is the player list:

Capture

Although we arent quite sure what these cards could represent, its pretty clear that there is some sort of redemption code element to the cards. They could be base, they could be special boosts, or they could be inserts. We just dont know at this point. However, we do know that Bunt is going to be a part of the product. We also know that the only way to get access to this set is through Series 2 packs.

Here is TOPPSMIKE’s confirmation:

https://twitter.com/TOPPSMIKE/status/608340182585245696

For all of you who arent collectors of physical cards, this is a VERY big deal. Not only does it open the door for potential tie ins with the other games in the many Topps Products, but it sure adds a fun chase to Series 2. Now that we see that the physical tie in is possible, will there be other things that you can eventually pull out of packs? I am giddy with anticipation. Can you imagine similar things for Huddle or Kick? Topps also produces physical packs for Star Wars as well! Endless potential here.

Series 2 is being released in stores in less than two weeks on 6/17, I would guess plenty of information is going to be available as soon as release gets closer.

Force Tip of the Day: Trading Based on User Types

I have said many times how difficult trading can be sometimes. Its one of those things that can be categorized as an art form, and the top traders are easily going to be some of the people that can take advantage of different types of user preferences. I usually like to assign characteristics regarding gameplay vs collecting in the other apps, but with Star Wars its a bit different. With no gameplay available, the trade economy can be built on a few different types of users, and Ill do my best to write out what they are all about. Although many people can display traits of a few different types, its usually easy to figure out where they sit as a primary type.

Marathon Collectors

This group of collectors used to comprise the majority of the user base as the main trend in the way they acquire cards. Basically, if a card is part of one of the weekly marathons, they needed a copy. If a card wasnt part of a marathon, many times they wouldnt put as high a value on their efforts to acquire it. When the pack format switch changed, many people started to look into collecting more of the non-marathon sets, but this trait is still dominant among most of the people.

If you are going to trade with one of these individuals, be aware that they are very unlikely to trade away single copies of the marathon sets, even if their set is not up to date and complete. This also means that low count non-marathon cards may not be as valuable to them, unless you are asking for non-marathon cards in return.

I used to be one of these people 100%, save a few extra Darth Maul cards I thought were cool. Although I have diversified considerably, this is easily my dominant trait.

Character Collectors

These are the users that exist only to collect every card of a certain character. It can be a popular one like Vader or Boba Fett, or it can be an obscure one like a random droid. For the purposes of discussion, lets talk about the people who collect a popular character, as inserts are going to play a very big role in their collections.

I have seen people try to accumulate hundreds, if not thousands of base of a certain person. This is addition to massive collections of inserts and base parallels. You would be surprised how much time someone can dedicate to chasing down every last Han Solo card in the game, or every Yoda card. When you see how many low count inserts that entails, its daunting to say the least.

When trading with these people, they are unlikely to trade any card with their person on it. Yet, they may undervalue other cards in their collection if they are getting a good haul of their target. Be careful in being a jerk and asking for too much, but they may trade in your favor.

Hoarders

When Vintage and Widevision became the top cards to collect, and the big three took center stage, there were a group of users who set out to hoard as many of them as possible. This means unlimited copies of high value inserts, with a thirst to get the biggest collection there is. I think I saw one guy who has 19 copies of the Vintage Han in the Millenium falcon, along side 20 Obi Wan Kenobi widevisions. Wow.

Hoarders are becoming increasingly unpopular in the community, but some of that may stem from the size of their epic collections. I have seen users refuse to trade with hoarders, even when presented with a king’s ransom, if not only to prevent another copy from going out of circulation. Obviously, its up to you, but I have no problem with them getting their wares, as long as it is done fairly. Most of the hoarders look to be pretty dedicated traders, even if they refuse to part with any of their top cards.

I think it should be a no-brainer that trying to pry a top card away from a hoarder is likely going to be very difficult. That being said, if you have one of the main chases that you want to trade, they may be willing to give quite a bit if you play your cards right.

Set Collectors

Ill hand it to the Card Trader design team, they do a REALLY good job making awesome looking cards. As a result, there is a growing group of people who collect as many of the individual sets as they can. When I say individual sets, I mean ones like Luminaries and Firebrand, not Connections and Vintage.

Because many of the individual sets have a number of parallels, they have to dedicate quite a bit of time to acquire those low count cards that comprise the rarer legs of the set. This can be a task that might be close to impossible in some cases, so it requires a lot of trading.

I have traded with people in this category quite a bit, and weekly inserts are often used to pry tough set pieces away from users who like the marathons more. Considering that I am still a marathon collector more than a set collector, I place more value on the cards they are usually willing to part with.

This is a very volatile group to be a part of, as many of the individual set values can fluctuate rapidly as the awards are paid out. I would go as far as saying this is the most difficult group to be a part of because of that situation.

Overall, its just fun to trade with people. If you are not a trade person, I would suggest giving it a shot. Without trading, you cant achieve anywhere close to what you would if you were an active participant. Bottom line. Understanding each of these groups will give you a leg up, and make your experience a lot more enjoyable too.
