Huddle Tip of the Day – What Are the Best Packs to Buy Now?

A month or so ago, I posted on my thoughts for what pack is the best bet for users to buy on a regular basis. Since that time, we have had a bit of a shift in game, with boosts becoming rightfully more rare, and ultra rare inserts coming around. I wanted to revisit the packs for each type of player.

Points Players

Best Packs: Blue Boost Pack
Cost: 12500 coins
Cards: 5
Odds: 40% SR 60% SCR
Best cards to chase: Rare Blue Boosts

Here is my suggestion on these packs, because you no longer have the luxury of being able to buy them at any point. You really have to be strategic, and I have pretty much got this down. Dont buy when they release the first card in a set. Buy right after the fourth/fifth card is released. The sets usually are released 4-5 days per week, with Breaks on Saturday and Sunday. Monday night boosts and thursday night boosts correspond to the teams in the game, which make them an even better buy for people playing for points.

Now, I get that its harder to pull the boosts now, but at the same token, its no longer 20k coins for 9.99. With the added coins to the bundle, you should be able to get a few more packs and if you open at the right time, you should be able to get one of the new cards per bundle. Because these cards are much more rare, you can trade them for some really nice higher level boosts. Dont hold onto your ultra rare Blue version of someone when you can get the Orange or Sky Blue version for cheaper. Set collectors will pay through the nose for the rare blues, and that means you should take advantage when you have them.

Collectors

Best packs: Extra Point
Cost: 1000
Cards: 1
Odds: Normal Odds
Best cards to chase: Weekly Inserts

I cant believe I am writing this. I really cant, but the Cult of the Loosie has turned me. Basically, here is the situation. With each weekly insert, there is a growing contingent of people who go straight to the loosie 1 card + inserts pack that costs a measley 1000 coins per pack. Because odds are basically the same for the one card as they are for the 5 card, you can get more out of the loosie in SOME specific cases.

The prime time to open this pack is RIGHT after the newest weekly insert is released. DO NOT open this pack a long time afterwards. You want to ride the wave of people opening at the same time, as the wheel of cards will cycle faster back to the line of inserts. If you do it when nothing is new, it will literally be you cycling alone, and you will have to open pack after pack.

At 1000 a pop, you can open like 50 of them at a time with one bundle purchase. I have seen these packs go on runs, where every other card is an insert because so many people are opening like crazy. My only advice? If you open a loosie, open at least 10 in a row. If you hit an insert, open a few more at least.

Even if you dont chase the weekly inserts, the coin rewards are big enough that you can trade it for something you need. If you dont subscribe to this theory, I understand – I didnt either. I didnt get why people would voluntarily give up a 5th card every five packs (4 loosie packs for 4000 gets you 4 cards, the high five for 4000 gets you 5 cards), but after pulling close to 20 of the weekly inserts over the last few weeks, im sold.

Huddle Tip of the Day – Gearing Up for the Playoffs!

I hate to write this post. I hate that the NFL Season is coming to a close already. There are only a few weeks left, but you can get a head start before the majority of the users understand what is going on. If the post season in Bunt is any indication, there is going to be a big party for the playoffs, and this is your two minute warning.

The best thing to do right now is to consider the players that you know will likely be making a playoff push. This situation is especially so in trading for the higher boosts, as its clear that the teams who make it will be that much more valuable. You dont want to be the guy who is on the outside looking for a way in. Around week 16, people will start unloading their guys for teams who arent going to be playing, and if you get going now, you can be ahead.

There are two specific issues to be conscious of, and both are extremely important to consider. First, we can be confident that there will likely be HUGELY boosted cards coming into focus for the playoffs, as there were in Bunt. This doesnt mean your cards will be worthless, but the value will be diminished if it happens. The thing is, we dont know how much the boosts will be in play, so it could be that the 6x pink may still be near the top.

The second issue is that the post season chase will likely be separate from the regular season chase. This means that you might not want to handcuff your performance for weeks 11-17 just because you want to perform in the playoffs.

More consideration should be placed on the fact that more people will be playing along for the playoffs, because there arent as many games. This means that it will be harder to finish among the top players, as more people will be competing. On the other hand, a harder competitive balance only lends itself more to picking up the cards early on.

Here are the teams I would go hard into:

  • Cardinals: Ellington, Floyd, Fitzgerald
  • Patriots: Brady, Gronkowski, Edelman
  • Broncos: Manning, Dem Thomas, Julius Thomas
  • Packers: Rodgers, Lacy, Nelson, Cobb
  • Colts: Luck, Hilton, Wayne
  • Cowboys: Murray, Witten, Bryant

Stay ahead of the game, and you will see how easy it can be to pull things off.

Throwdown Primer – 11/17: Breakdown of Tonight’s Game Boosts!

Welcome to another throwdown, and this one should be interesting – more for its blowout potential than for its ramifications on the NFL playoff picture. Pittsburgh, despite the loss to a horrible Jets team, is still very much in the hunt, and Tennessee is not great. Not a good combination for the Titans.

Ben Roethlisberger – PIT 7x (200)

Even though his team didnt perform against the Jets, Roethlisberger has put up a monster season so far. Unlike the Jets, who’s pass rush and defense isnt horrible, Tennessee is definitely not worth much on the other side of the Ball. I would expect Big Ben to have a BIG game.

Huddle is trying something new tonight with varied numbering on the boosts, and that might factor into some of the value we are going to see in these cards. The number in parentheses is representing the card count.

Verdict: Vital Piece

Antonio Brown – PIT 7x (150)

This could get ugly if Brown can get going. He has 5 catches in every game this year it seems, and with the Tennessee defensive backs being nothing to write home about, Brown has serious potential to go off.

Verdict: Vital Piece

Bishop Sankey – TEN 7x (100)

The one thing that Mr. Sankey Leg has going for him is that he has no other cards in the game. However, the Pitt rush defense has very little room for a huge game, which should be concerning. Similarly, the whole offensive situation in Tennessee is concerning on their own, which is a big issue.

Verdict: Low Priority

Zack Mettenberger – TEN 7x (175)

Another rookie signal caller, Mettenberger has looked the part most of the time he has been in. I dont think he is going to have a break tonight, and that’s no joke. You know things are bad when you have to pick Zack Mettenberger as the GO boost for this game. When you think about it, there is literally no one else. Justin Hunter and Nate Washington both are not making it super easy on him.

Verdict: LOW Priority

Honorable Mentions:

Martavis Bryant (PIT) – Even though he was inactive for the first few weeks, he has emerged as one of the brightest deep threat options on a team that already has Brown.

Le’Veon Bell (PIT) – He hasnt had the best games as of late, but will likely do well tonight.

Gridiron Unwrapped – New Huddle Inserts 11/17

Wow! What a week of Huddle, right? So many cool releases and even more cards that add to the different options that we have to chase in the game. Although the weeks are dwindling in the season, the playoffs always get crazy, and many of these cards can help you out along the way.

Parallax Sigs – Mason, Revis, Bell

IMG_0178 IMG_0179 IMG_0177

Collectability: N/A
Playability (all): football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322

Just in case anyone wanted to take a look, the first three winners of the Parallax ticket have had their cards delivered. They look very much like the normal sigs, but if you have the parallax effect turned on your iPhone, you can see how they look with a 3D style presentation. Really cool to see them in action, and the player selection is pretty interesting, no doubt about it. These are all 1/1s, so dont expect the users to trade them, which I know is going to be confusing for some.

Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady Triple Sig

IMG_0182

Collectability: Extreme+
Playability: N/A

This card is a beast and comes with a beast reward of 75k coins. This means the 100 copies of it are going to be impossible to trade for until the reward expires this wednesday. I love the look of the card as a triple horizontal card, but the fact that you cant get boosted points from all three players is some fun that we missed out on. It was the same thing in Bunt, but still a very cool card none the less. I have been hunting for this card unsuccessfully since release, and the pull rate makes it even more difficult to get.

Julius Peppers Blue Sig and White Sig

IMG_0183 IMG_0184

Collectability: Extreme
Playability: football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322

I really like the idea of splitting up the sigs into a rarer version and a set reward version. Both of the Peppers cards are pretty low count, and I am actually pretty shocked that he was the choice. The Packers got like 7 insert releases over the last few days, and they already had a sig released in Rodgers earlier in the year. This doesnt even take into account that Rodgers was ALSO on the triple sig. I think its time to let some other teams have a shot at a sig. That being said, the blue sig is a VERY tough pull at 55 copies, and with a 5x boost, it might be worth chasing just to have as trade bait for other rarer sigs in the game. The white sig at 250 copies is way too low for someone like Peppers, and the 4x boost makes it worth picking up for the post season.

Marshawn Lynch Street Series

IMG_0181

Collectability: Extreme
Playability: football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322

I see that they are starting to mess around with contrast in the head shot cards and making it work for them. I like the idea of a super low count series, and I think the concept is definitely interesting enough to make me want to pick this card up. Its a cool design, and a low print run, but the 5x boost is REALLY nice, especially if the Seahawks can put it all together for the playoffs. Now that I think about it, this card really reminds me of those NFL Street games from PlayStation, where it was like NBA jam. Nice nostalgia buzz there.

Aaron Rodgers Limited Series

IMG_0180

Collectability: Unattainable
Playability: football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322

Although I am not a huge fan of the name of this series, I am a huge fan of the concept of this set. I think it presents a situation very much like the lightning cards in Bunt, but the added 5x boost is going to help these a lot. The Mint cards are actually much more valuable than I could ever believe, and its not crazy to think that this card might end up being one of the more valuable inserts available at the moment. Rodgers is hot, and only 12 of these means that its basically unattainable.

Takedown Set

Capture

I really like the concept of making these look like Hunt for Red October style one sheets, but I am not really a person who loves defensive players. Although the checklist is strong, and the cards look cool, im not one to chase this set.

Verdict: SELL!

With continued blue boost releases and likely more of these chase style cards coming, looks like this is going to be a fun couple of weeks until the playoffs start.

Huddle Tip of the Day – Ultra Limited Cards Bring About a New Chase

Based on recent releases of new sets, we are apparently entering a new age of non-boost inserts, one that I am very interested in. This new era is one of limited releases and higher boosts up to 5x and beyond, which is long overdue.

With the growing amount of player boost cards, the inserts were no longer the chase that people actually wanted to partake in. With new boost levels for inserts, that will be a nice change. The boost levels will likely increase further as we get closer to the playoffs, as they did in bunt, but this creates a new chase until then.

As for the growing rarity of many of the cards, its likely that there will be people out there who will never like ultra limited cards. I am not one of those people. I love chasing down the tough cards, and the fact that they exist gives a new type of challenge to work through. The release of inserts like the Rodgers and Lynch with higher boosts creates some huge trade value in those cards, and its clear that the blue signature series is something that is generating similar feelings of need.

When you break down that these ultra limited cards have A) no bearing on any set and B) are just there for a cool experience of getting them, I see no issue. The Luck blue sig out of 12 will likely be the top card in the game for some time, and that is no joke. However, because it does not negate the set chase, it hurts no one. Samething goes for the triple sig, whose 100 copies are very limited and makes it a tough pull. But, its just a standalone card which brings more balance to the argument of whether or not these types of cards should exist.

Eventually, the final sigs in the set will drop in availability, there is no doubt about that. The season long chase will be in jeopardy for some at that point, but others will take it as something they need to have in place to keep things fresh. I am one of those people, even though I am going to potentially lose all my hair due to the stress of chasing down these cards.

Huddle Tip of the Day – Chasing Rare Blue Boosts

Let me start this off by saying that I am happy the blue boost releases arent as easy as many of the black and purple boosts that were released prior. There has to be a level of chase, or the cards wont remain valuable over time. It should be clear that the boost level will consistently increase with time, but rarity will never go out of style.

Does this make it more difficult to complete sets? Of course! But where is the fun if every set has 500 copies? Then it just becomes a tedious task to open just enough packs to get enough dupes to trade for the ones you dont have. With lower count boosts, there is a chase, and I LOVE THE CHASE. Each new release has to be special, or else there is no real reason to continuing the program. If every card is overly available, we just get frustrated. At least with these cards, we have a mission.

If you were a part of Bunt this season, there was a similar level of chase for the sigs, as many of them were ultimately so valuable that you almost couldnt trade for them. You had to pull them, or spend hours hunting someone down that would give a reasonable trade. I am starting to see the same thing with the 100 level Blue Boosts, even more so for Ben Roethlisberger at 50. These cards are the new sigs, and that is saying something.

Adding rarity to the card pool is going to do a few things, some good some bad. The first thing is it adds a lot of value to the cards for the lucky users who pull them. That is a good thing. If you spend the money to open packs, and hit a monster, you deserve the value that comes with it. On the flip side, a very negative thing is that people can open huge amounts of the packs and walk away with nothing. It adds to the allure of the card, and ensures that users with a ton of coins cant corner the market, but it may frustrate some of the bigger buyers.

We all need to be aware that huddle is a business, and they need to make money to keep the game going. The key is finding the balance between egging on more coin purchases in the name of opening awesome packs, and not making it so easy that value is lost. If there is no value, no one will buy, and that means the game wont make money. It is very difficult to find that gray area, and I dont think many people truly understand how to make it work within the limitations that the staff has to abide by.

Now, this is coming from the perspective of someone who spends, but doesnt spend so much that I need to get every card. I know there are people out there seething that they cant have a 100 score collection. I think we are past that point – its not possible in real life and its slowly getting out of reach in Huddle. That is okay. Silence the alarm.

This is a game of collecting and gameplay, and it will continue to evolve as the user base allows. That is okay too. So much we get caught up in the Huddle and Bunt of last year, where you could have 100 accounts and not spend a dime to maintain a place among the best. In 2014, that is not the case, and money will be required to exist the same way. I love opening packs, I love playing for points, but as I said before, I like the challenge. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I would get bored VERY easily if there wasnt some sort of limited element. Now that there is a dwindling supply of Blues, I am quickly making a home for myself on the trade boards for the first time in weeks.

I am excited to see how this continues to go, as I believe that we are in for some really competitive final months of the season. Oh, and if you have a few of the 100 level boosts, shoot me a trade. I am ALWAYS in the market for nice cards.

Throwdown Primer 11/13 – Breakdown of Tonight’s Game Boosts!

Another Thursday is upon us, which means its time for another round of Throwdown! This time, we have a pretty even game between the Bills and the Dolphins, and its clear that both teams desperately need to win this game to keep their playoff hopes in tact.

Sammy Watkins – Buffalo 7x

FINALLY, we get a new Sammy card, and boy are people going to be excited after he has lit it up these last few weeks. Watkins is easily a top candidate for ROY so far, and to think his only cards in the game right now are Golds and a few 1x inserts is insane! At 100 copies, this might be one of the more highly coveted game boosts that exist.

Verdict: Vital Piece

Kyle Orton – Buffalo 7x

No bigger surprise in the NFL right now than how well Orton has played, which is only more intriguing by his mock-retirment early in the year. Orton is another Buffalo player with no cards in the game, and this might be one of those cards that people will chase. He doesnt go nuts like Rodgers or Manning in points, but he could do well tonight.

Verdict: Worth Picking Up

Ryan Tannehill – Miami 7x

He has looked good this year, really good. His TD to Interception ratio is miles ahead of where it was at this point last year, and his Dolphins have already beaten some of the top teams. Considering that he has some talent around him, he may end up being the surprise of the 2012 class.

Verdict: Vital Piece

Lamar Miller – Miami 7x

Miller was a bit banged up, but has come around and should get the bulk of the carries tonight. Although he was thrust into the role with Moreno going down, he has performed well averaging 4.4 YPC and 8 TDs. Pretty solid stuff. He could have a big game against Buffalo if Tannehill plays well in front of him.

Verdict: Vital Piece

Honorable Mentions:

Mike Wallace – he isnt what he was in Pitt, but he is playing well enough this year to make an impact.

Robert Woods – Since Watkins’ arrival, Woods has taken a back seat, but his production is still up there.

Huddle Tip of the Day – Breaking Down the Set Card Conundrum

Inserts are an important part of any Topps digital app. The users have been conditioned to base most of their playing experience around the collectability and rarity of many of the cards (rightfully so), and thus, inserts are the manifestation of that perspective.

We saw in Bunt most of the year, that set cards can be some of the most coveted cards in the game. The rarer the set cards, the more they were chased by the collectors. With official licensing and a bevvy of photos to use in each of the inserts, the sets were fresh and rarely seemed under-appreciated. No doubt there were some duds, but when these cards only scored 1x common, and were still traded for some of the better cards available, you knew there was more than just play power involved in their allure.

In Huddle, I dont envy the job of the set card designers, because for lack of a better term, they are expected to put lipstick on a pig each week. The player head shots are rarely interesting, and to have to use them OVER AND OVER again is brutal. They have done a really good job making the most of some of the cards, as I love Allen and Ginter, Chrome and the new Aces set. However, there are also quite a few sets that I could do without. Again, this isnt on them necessarily, as there isnt much you can do with one photo redone a ton of times.

Naturally, Huddle has focused on improving gameplay elements, which has kept the app fresh in my opinion. The throw-down format has been tweaked enough that makes it something to look forward to even in a blowout, and the boosts have definitely generated the buzz we saw in the insert cards in Bunt. Think about how many people are going nuts trying to collect each set in a similar fashion to what we saw during the baseball season! I think we dont give them enough credit, even though its clear that not everyone is happy with the format.

Does that mean that all set cards should be ditched in favor of a fifth level of boost? Not even close. I do think that to make the set cards worth the chase, they have to be tweaked a bit. Most importantly, the reward card has to have the 5x boost attached, minimum. Sure, coins are a motivator, but nothing like an ultra playable card plus coins. More than that, when a good set comes into play, like we saw with Chrome and the rarity is more due to the fact that people chose to open boosts instead? Im not a fan of that. I think the two elements can be married and generate a very collectible set.

Lastly, I think the checklist element of many of these sets needs to be addressed. Its HARD to build a checklist that appeals to the masses. There are only so many Peyton Manning cards you can make. However, there are also 50+ players who deserve more representation and have yet to receive it. Players like Sammy Watkins are close to the league lead in TDs and Yardage, and he only has 6 cards in the game. None of those cards is boosted over 2x. Although he will likely get a blue boost come Thursday, it is a clear representation that there are guys out there who need cards.

Lets face facts here, Topps has a tough situation to deal with. However, I think that among all the different programs, the set cards are the ones that could use the most attention. When I cant give the cards away, its representative that the community isnt responding the way they probably need to.

Huddle Tip of the Day – Reward Cards On the Way!

To this point, we have seen that collection strength can be as important as play strength in a user’s card sheet, and now that we are through week 10, its time to sync up on the sets that are now going to have a clock on them. When this clock expires, a reward card will be issued for all the people who were able to put them together.

For a comprehensive breakdown of every checklist – please reference this google document.

Here is a guide for those of you who dont feel like reading a spread sheet.

Signature Series

The first time around, the reward card was JJ Watt, so we can assume that the person they choose for this set is going to be pretty nice. Watt clocked in at 93 copies, which means that for three 500 level sigs, and two under 300, there were only 93 people who had every one. This is going to be different now that there are three under 400, including one at 175. Im going to guess the final count will be closer to 50 or 60 this time around.

Here is the checklist:

  • Matt Forte (500)
  • Julio Jones (500)
  • Calvin Johnson (350)
  • Russell Wilson (350)
  • Andrew Luck (175)

Golden Moments

This set has been one of the under appreciated weekly cards in my opinion. Its the design that works the best with HS pictures, and most of the moments they have chose have been really cool. With Bradford at 350, this will likely put the set reward card around 125 or 150 if I would have to guess.

Here is the checklist:

  • Cam Newton (500)
  • Cordarrelle Patterson (500)
  • Jason Witten (500)
  • Andrew Luck (500)
  • Sam Bradford (350)

Rising Stars

This set has had a few rookies that never got any other cards, so the set has become pretty collectable. I would say that with every card at 350, and there being so many, the final reward card will be 50 or less.

Here is the checklist:

  • Marqise Lee
  • Jordan Reed
  • Jace Amaro
  • Eric Reid
  • Eric Ebron
  • Sheldon Richardson
  • Kelvin Benjamin
  • Tavon Austin
  • Montee Ball
  • Tre Mason

Monday Night Series

Again, this set has become a tougher get due to the high rewards that accompany each card, but after the awards go out, they are easy to trade for. There are a lot of them, so its going to be tough to get the set. I would put the reward around 50 or less.

Here is the checklist

  • Patrick Willis
  • Brett Keisel
  • DJ Swearinger
  • Colt McCoy
  • Tony Romo
  • Odell Beckham Jr
  • Mark Sanchez
  • Luke Kuechly

Player of the Week

These cards are more plentiful than the MNF and the RS, but there are also a ton more of them to get. However, because you needed all four for the set reward each week, that could help. I would expect the reward card to be around 150.

Here is the checklist:

  • Joe Flacco
  • Tyron Smith
  • Jurrell Casey
  • Ezekiel Ansah
  • Peyton Manning
  • Aaron Rodgers
  • Keenan Robinson
  • Kelvin Smith
  • Ben Roethlisberger
  • Anthony Barr
  • Louis Delmas
  • Larry Fitzgerald
  • Jeremy Maclin
  • Ben Roethlisberger 2
  • Brent Grimes
  • Junior Gallette
  • TBD
  • TBD
  • TBD
  • TBD

Fan’s Choice

These cards are by far the easiest to get at over 1000 copies likely per card. I would expect the most recent ones to be the toughest, with Savage being the newest so far.

Here is the checklist:

  • Matt Forte
  • Roy Helu
  • Brent Keisel
  • Tom Savage
  • TBD (Today)

Editor’s Choice

These were really cool cards with the action shots, but have remained a valuable weekly card with the player checklist being as good as it is. I would expect the reward card at about 125-150.

Here is the checklist:

  • Demarco Murray (500)
  • Andrew Luck (500)
  • Joe Flacco (500)
  • Matt Ryan (500)
  • Denard Robinson (350)

Even though week 10 is done – remember to keep all your cards for the season long chase. There will be one massive reward for everyone who can get each card in each series, and if the experience from Bunt holds true, its going to be a nice card.

Huddle Tip of the Day – Going Back to Trading Basics

I love trading. Its literally the lifeblood of the fun factor of this game, as it feeds into every aspect of doing well. Trading can either make you a stronger competitor or a top collector, and if you avoid it, you will not reach full potential. It is also an art form, and the nuance is so tremendous that it almost isnt nuance. Because Huddle is such a community based program, knowing the background of things is akin to posting content on a site like Reddit. You have to follow the unwritten rules to avoid the hammer of the experienced users.

Although I have talked about this a lot on the site, and its posted in my newbie guide up top, its worth posting again just in case. Who knows, even the vets might be able to pick up a few tips.

Navigating the Fan Feed

For a new user, the feed must be DAUNTING to understand. It is not only a constant scrolling monster of text and emoticons, but it is full of vocab that takes a while to pick up. Despite all that, it is also important to make sense of it. Sending trades from the main card sheet instead of the feed can get you in hot water if not done correctly, so this is the easiest way to trade. It can also be the most frustrating, as many personalities can clash instantly.

I still stand by the best way to build your collection is to post on the feed and let the offers come to you. The offering party usually has to overpay, and it will help to make sure you dont offend anyone by making a horrendous offer. This takes time, and it also takes patience, as the offers that come can be notoriously bad. On the other hand, if you have a good card that people want, it can function like an auction atmosphere.

A word of caution, if you are new, and your collection score and trader feedback show that you are new, people can try to take advantage of that. It is essential to read up on the news feed to ensure you arent missing on the chases, and it is that much more important to see any trends that might be developing.

Also keep in the forefront of your mind the concept I mentioned above. If you are making the offer, you will have to overpay. Its rare to find a deal where the person taking the offer will accept a fair trade for both parties. Its not a great system, but that is the way it is. This also implies that you have to start from the bottom and work your way up. Dont go and try to chase down the top cards in the game – start by trying to build your collection to compete in the weekly chase. That will give you more coins, which will allow you to buy more packs. With more packs come more cards, and more nice inserts. Its not a good idea to land yourself on ignore list after ignore list because you want to get a Luck sig by trading some gold base. Its just not going to happen that way, im sorry. You will only hurt your reputation.

Crafting a Fan Feed Post

This is where marketing really comes into play, and why most users get frustrated so quickly. If you cant appeal to the masses, you will hurt your chances of getting more offers.

First, dont be super specific, as it will turn away traders who just want to trade whatever they have for whatever you have. Good offers will be missed if you say “WANT THIS, HAVE THIS.” If the person doesnt meet those qualifications, they wont offer. You want offers.

Second, dont be so vague that people will be turned off. I see people just post “Trades” as their one word entry. I will not trade with these people. None of them. If you cant figure out a way to make me want to spend the few minutes to download your cards, Im moving on.

Its almost better just to say, “Looking to build my collection – come check out what I have and lets make a deal!” rather than going completely off the wall. Funny entries also work, as I almost will give a look just to see what’s up.

Making Offers

I have a few pet peeves, and I assume that these are different for everyone. Its imperative to recognize your audience as well. Gamers will have different needs than Collectors. Newbies trading with huge collection users will likely not match up well.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: Just because someone NEEDS a card, doesnt mean they WANT that card. Also, just because someone has 10 dupes, does not make it open season.

Sending a note with your trade can be a plus or a huge minus depending on what you say. If you are friendly, well spoken, and appreciative, sure go ahead and send a note. If you are going to send a text to your BFF duing class, and beg for acceptance, save yourself the trouble. Act the part. People who beg for cards automatically end up on my ignore list. Just say thank you for the consideration.

Now, here is the main part of this. Boost cards are currently dominating the trade market. Blue and Purple boosts are expensive to obtain and hard to let go. If you dont have equal footing, I would suggest against making the offers until you can manage to improve your collection. Other cards like Sigs and cards that give big payouts in coins are also very difficult to come by and expensive to obtain. Keep that in mind before making an offer.

The golden rule of making offers is as such:

If you wouldnt accept the trade yourself, dont make the offer.

Why would you expect me to accept your trade if you wouldnt accept it if someone offered it to you. Equal value may be a fleeting ghost of a concept, but make your best guess. If you need help, ask.

Understanding Collection Scores

I have always been skeptical at first, but Collection score is a great indicator of potential for trades if you are working with a more general fan feed post. Try to find people with similar status so that you can potentially avoid running into someone who needs nothing that you have to offer.

People with collection scores over 80 either have a ton of inserts, or a ton of boosts, which means that they might only need a very specific card that you likely dont have if your score is 50. That’s not always the case, but like I said, you have to start from the bottom and work your way up. If you DO have that card they need, try not to over extend yourself and make an offer they will hate. You might even want to send a same card trade with a message and let them tell you what they might be willing to do.

What Defines Value in a Card?

There are a few factors that we all look at in some combination. I would make sure to take inventory of all of them as soon as you are ready to start trading with people. It will only help you to avoid issues.

  • Card Count – how many copies of the card are available? New cards with low card counts are valuable, but consider the number that will EVENTUALLY be available. Each release has an article in the news feed. Huddle does not release a card without explanation.
  • Coin Reward – the higher the reward that is active for the card, the higher the value. Again, check the news feed.
  • Card Type – Sigs are valuable because of what they are. Other cards in sets may be similarly valuable depending on many factors. Other cards like Boosts are valuable because of their point scoring potential.
  • Point Boost – the higher the boost over common, the more value. A 5x boost is going to be exponentially more valuable than a base gold.
  • Player – More popular players like Manning and Brady will have value because of who they are.
  • Player Position – QBs, WR and RB, are the most valuable position because of how many points those positions score.
  • Game – Teams in the current Thursday and Monday games are automatically more valuable than ones that are not.

Overall, its going to be almost impossible to achieve a perfect trading experience. I will say, the more quickly you can recognize trends and value, the more of an advantage you will have. Right now, we are already more than halfway into the season, which means you are well behind. That doesnt mean you cant compete. Its fun regardless of your collection, and please let me know if you need help understanding.
