New Bunt Inserts Unwrapped – 9/11

As the push for the post season begins, Im going to guess that Bunt is going to start focusing on delivering cards that will help people when the playoffs start. Im guessing things like Black Boosts and Fire Boosts wont be out of the question, but for now, we are going to have to play a guessing game. Here is what is new this week!

SR FIRE BOOST 1/1 Ticket

IMG_2033

Collectability: N/A
Playability: N/A

People are split when it comes to these types of cards, with some loving it and others hating it. Personally, I think its a really cool program, especially when the card you create is a Fire Boost 4x sig card instead of a normal sig. Gives an added element of chase to the points players who may have some coins to burn, but also a decision of what needs to be done. Do you choose your favorite player, or the player that will help you the most? Hard decision.

SR Jose Altuve Signature Series

IMG_2135

Collectability: Extreme
Playability: Capture

I think in the grand scheme of things, Altuve is one of the more under appreciated guys in the league. He hits, he runs, and he is great in the field. Although the Astros have lucked out with Chris Carter and George Springer, Altuve is the man in Houston. Now, this is a team that doesnt have a lot of fans, but its nice they are getting some love.

Mike Trout Key Card Reward

IMG_2136

Collectability: Extreme
Playability:CaptureCapture

The people who were able to collect the Angels key cards were granted access to the pack this week, and Mike Trout with it. There are not many of them out there, and the access to the pack is pretty limited. That being said, the appeal is marked only by its rarity, not its look or functionality. In both those cases, its basically another Trout gold card. Interesting concept though, but I dont think people are happy about having to buy into the pack for a CHANCE at the reward card.

Huddle Tip of the Day – A Guide to Coin Hoarding

If you are like me, you are trying not to spend all your coins as quickly as you get them. With so many different cards that are needed all at once, coins are a luxury! There are definitely ways to pick up coins as you go, although many of them are usually tied to spending money. Here are some other ways to get some coins the old fashioned way.

Green and White Sets

If you havent noticed, these cards are about as hot as anything right now. Trading the rare greens and whites that comprise the team sets en masse can get you inserts right now, mainly because everyone is looking for coins to spend. If you have a stash of greens, I woudl definitely trade as many of them as you can right now and stock up on reds and silvers, because once the majority of the people in game complete their sets, the floor is going to drop out on this economy. Seriously, if you are a points player who is looking to stock up, there is no better time to get your reds than now!

If you are looking to stock up on coins, however, you are going to need to over pay for a few of the different greens – including many of the ones that were released after day one. This includes guys like Luck, Kaepernick, Megatron, Dez Bryant and more. Try to make lots of offers with a lot of different people to get the ones you need.

Here are some tips:

  • Offensive Lineman and Defense are great throw ins to make a trade look stronger than it actually is.
  • Trading with newer people will make it easy because they will need more cards and you will have those to give.
  • Think of the guys you will actually play religiously – McCoy, Peterson, Manning, etc. If they are not going to be on that list, they become expendable to get more coins.
  • Look ahead to Thursday Night, Sunday Night and Monday Night – those cards become 100% more valuable the week of those games. You will have a lot of extra oomph to your trades if you offer those cards.
  • Keep the greens you acquire, teams have two awards per city – green and white. You will need cards for each award, and you dont want to trade away the one you need for the second award to get another you need for the same list. I have done that so many times!
  • Buy the common pack for 500 coins that has 15 commons in it. I have gotten so many cards to finish sets out of these packs, and its good when you have coins left over.

Remember, at this point, you know what the reality is – greens and whites run the show. Now that you know what the reality is, think of those ways to find an edge and make a run.

Borrowing

The borrowing rules have changed. You will no longer be able to get the inserts and a coin award instantly. You will only be given the award if you have the card at the time it is given out – usually a week after release. That means lending out coin cards has become irrelevant. Dont waste your time with it because it can lead to lots of issues.

On the other hand, greens and whites still have instant awards, so its a good idea to find a trustworthy partner and have at it.

Spot and Comment Challenges

Huddle and Bunt run articles that can give you awards for guesses on certain challenges, or for just leaving a thoughtful comment. Try to participate as much as possible, because why not? At least its a free shot at some coins. Go to the news section and look for articles that have the coin symbol in the corner.

Inserts

Believe it or not, the 1000 coin inserts are pretty easy to trade for right now, and come the award giveaways, you can really come away with a nice little bonus! Make sure to package a few greens and whites, and if you find that person that is really seeking out the sets, they will give up a lot!

Points Chase

After a glitch yesterday, where we all freaked out, looks like all is well with coins for scoring high on the points chase. At minimum, chase the easy ones like breaking 5000 points (you should be able to do this with rookie pack golds), and others like that. Read the article that should be out each tuesday or wednesday and target those awards. They are like another stream of coins that many people miss out on, without realizing it doesnt take a ton of work.

Bottom line, if you want to get coins, it is going to take some work. Not enough to make it cost prohibitive, but definitely better than dipping into the old bank account when you dont have to.

Bunt Tip of the Day – Pros and Cons for the New 7th Inning Stretch Pack

Since April, I dont think I have ever broken down a pack in this way, but I think its time that I talked about what is going on with the return of the 7th Inning Stretch pack that has all weekly inserts in it. This concept has not been available since the start of the app, and I think there are both pros and cons to the configuration and price.

Content – PRO

The ability to buy one pack with all insert included is a concept that many Bunt users have been calling for. I think that it is a big deal to be able to buy into a one stop shop, especially if you are looking to collect and not looking to sample a million different packs to do so.

Additionally, removing Rare, Uncommon and Common cards from the pack is a huge deal, considering that most of the people who buy this pack will not need any of those cards. Its clear that there is a need to give people more access to inserts seeing that there is a growing frustration among the user base surrounding game odds, and this is a start.

Price – CON

The price of this pack is quite exorbitant, considering what is available inside. 7 cards would normally cost 7000-7500 coins depending, which puts the cash/card ratio at its normal 1000 per. This is more than triple that price, which is to signify two things – no low level cards and a ton more inserts. Personally, I dont think that justifies a 300% margin on the normal card cost, and I think that most people feel the same way.

At 15000 coins, which is double the price of the normal card cost, you would expect to get what is available in this particular pack. That’s 1000 per card, 55% for the removal of the low level base and addition of the inserts. I would happily pay that.

Because the coins are so much to buy in, this con is about as big as it gets, almost overshadowing any point that can be made in support of the pack.

Availability – PRO

I think that making this a standard pack is a big deal, which also may be factoring in the price. Because it will ALWAYS be available (as long as inserts are around), they may be expecting us to pay extra coins for that option. I dont agree with that strategy, but I like that there will be a pack with all inserts available at all times.

Access – CON

In order to buy this pack, you have to spend real money, as it will take too long to save up enough coins to make it worth the purchase.

Here is my formula: 4000 – weekly coins from daily bonus, 9000 – weekly bonus for 7 days, 8500 – easily winnable points chase coins = about a week and a half worth of saving just to buy 7 cards without a guaranteed insert.

If you are a gold VIP, you can buy two of these packs per week, but you will miss out on the sig packs, which are 7500, give same cards, and have the base weekly inserts. Interesting trade off, and that’s only if the sigs are not included in the 30k pack.

Gridiron Unwrapped – New Huddle Inserts 9/9

Week one is in the books, and already we are starting to see some major traffic on the insert front. Like Bunt, Topps has already shown that they are just as committed to focusing on collectors as they are points players, and I am excited to see what this year has in store.

SR Jamaal Charles Black Boost

IMG_2125

Collectability: Extreme
Playability: football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322

Even though the Chiefs and Charles didnt exactly pour it on during their first game, he is still one of the best running backs in the game. That means this card is EXTREMELY valuable for points players at a 3x common scoring boost. As you all have experienced, Running Backs and QBs are both easy cards to play this year for a number of reasons, and that makes this a great choice to start the year. Sure doesnt hurt that the pack to get it was so expensive, meaning that it will be a tough get in trade as well.

SCR JJ Watt Editor’s Choice

IMG_2126

Collectability: Strong
Playability:football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322

Although defensive lineman are rarely playable under the new structure, Ill make an exception for JJ. He is a complete beast and had a monster game, and sacks definitely add up. The design they chose for this year’s card is awesome too, and that makes this that much more collectible. With a reward attached to collecting the first few, I think these cards will end up among the better weekly inserts.

Set Overview – 1984 Topps Anniversary

IMG_2127

I really like this set as the design is so iconic. Not only is it Elway’s rookie year, but also Marino, and we all know how those guys are enshrined all over football. Their rookie cards are easily in the top 10 most recognizable football cards of all time, and its cool that the 1984 design is being used in huddle too for the 30th anniversary. Wow, cant believe its already been 30 years.

One issue is that I see that the SR odds were dropped back to 1% for this pack, where in the kickoff packs it was raised to 3%. That makes these packs a lot tougher to stomach, as Topps was almost asking us to buy Kickoff with the same cards and better odds.

Verdict: Buy!

Set Overview – Men in the Trenches

IMG_2129

Not a huge fan of this set as I get the point, but its not all that interesting to me. Defensive line has never really been a glamour position within the NFL, even though guys like Watt and Jared Allen would disagree. Offensive line are cards that do not score points, so that takes away a lot of the allure. There will be new sets each week, so I think this is one im just going to pass on.

Verdict: Sell!

Set Overview – Bowman Football

IMG_2128

For those of you who are card collectors, Bowman is one of the brands where the rookie card is king. Bringing it to Huddle is definitely cool, and I expect that we will be getting all rookies in this set. The design for Bowman this year is really nice, and it fits well within the game – even better than the 1984 cards which look a bit strained. I like this a lot.

Verdict: Buy!

Bunt Tip of the Day – Cross App Trading

With the new launch of 2014 Huddle and Kick, many of you likely play more than one app at any given time. At the same point, its also a great situation to be able to trade across the apps for cards that you have built up on Bunt for new cards on Huddle and Kick. This is a VERY risky business, and here is how I approach it.

Making Offers

If you are looking to trade across apps, its your prerogative to set the ground rules when you are the one posting. When you post in the fan feed, make sure to explain exactly what you are looking to do. Scammers will prey on the uninformed, and by making the correct demands, you can scare them off.

  • Post that the other person must accept the cross app trade first
  • Post that the person must have the same user name on both apps (or close to it)
  • Post that the person should be established

You may not get as many offers based on making more rules, but it will save you the headache of replacing cards you lose through scamming.

Setting Up the Trade

When trading across apps, its likely done through 1:1 same card trade messages, and make sure you dont offer your big card for nothing of theirs while you work something out. I saw someone lose a nice card because they offered it with a message for a common, and the person just accepted the trade and that was it. Send a same card trade and wait for them to respond.

Secondly, it is ESSENTIAL to ensure that they will lose something big if they get banned from the game. Scamming through cross app trades will get you banned, as it is against the rules. But, if the account you trade the card to has nothing in it, they wont lose anything if that account gets banned. Make sure they have a really nice collection with a lot of nice cards, or just walk away.

The scam is to have you trade the card to a dummy account, then use the dummy account to trade to the main account. Then when you walk away from the scam, the only accounts that get banned are the ones involved in the trade. Its like card laundering.

I would say if they have a collection score below 65 on either app, be very cautious of the way you go about trading. Sure, there are people who will have no problems trading with newbies across apps, but that is asking for issues.

Also, make sure you see the card they are offering in the account that they are trading from. If they dont have the card in their account and say they will send it later from another account, walk away.

Red Flags

There are a million red flags to be aware of, and I want to make sure you know what they are. Bottom line, I might be giving people ideas by writing this out, but I also know that education is a virus to scams.

  • TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE TRADES – If its too good to be true, its likely too good to be true. Dont fall for someone offering a Trout sig for a few new huddle cards. Its too good to be true.
  • LANGUAGE – Its hard to trust people who message like they are a 12 year old girl talking to their BFFs. There are a lot of younger users who might actually be 12 years old, and they may not understand the true consequences of their actions. Similarly, people who can message in well thought out sentences usually dont fit the profile of a scammer. Again, im generalizing, but this is just my experience.
  • LOW COLLECTION SCORE – If they have a low collection score it means they dont have much invested in the account they are trading from. This could be a matter of tenure in the game, but also that they are using a dummy.
  • LOW TRADE COUNT – See above, it takes time to build up a trade count, and scammers are not in the business of spending time to cover up a mark that they can win without investing anything.
  • USER NAMES – Another generalization, but check out the user names of the people you are trading with. Because of how many people had up to 100 dummy accounts last year, there are a lot of user names that seem like variations on a common theme. Just worth paying attention to, especially if its like TROUTRULES123456 instead of just TROUTRULES1.

Reporting Scams

If you get taken, and I hope you dont, please report it to the app twitter accounts and flag the messages for the mods to see. You can also send a report by touching their username and clicking on “Report Fan” from the menu. If you report them, its not necessarily going to keep them from scamming other people, but its a start.

Overall, the only person you can trust is yourself, and the more you go by that rule the better. I hate to say that its not all rainbows and butterfly kisses out there, but it isnt. Better to prepare for the worst than end up in a bad situation.

Huddle Tip of the Day – Rookie Pack SR Golds

If you played Bunt as a rookie on Android or IOS, you likely had access to either the On Deck set or the Men of Action set that were part of the rookie packs. Huddle has taken a very similar approach with giving rookies some nice cards to play, only this time its a bit different.

Instead of creating a new set, they just selected a handful of good players to add to the packs in mass quantities, which is great for rookie players who want to score points, but awful for creating value in the cards.

First Wave (more common):
– Eric Decker
– Robert Quinn
– Jordy Nelson
– Antrelle Rolle

Second Wave (less common):
– Russell Wilson
– Eddie Lacy

Now, rookies have the tendency to not understand the “work your way up” mentality, and try to jump from the ground floor to the penthouse on day one. The issue, most of the people that have the cards they want already have close to 50 of each of these cards. This leads to a real frustration (similar to Bunt), surrounding trading these for other golds. In terms of trade value on a one to one basis, these cards are likely not going to be enough to get anywhere close to guys like Lynch, Peterson or Manning. However, if you are looking to complete sets, these cards might get you a few extra commons and greens you might not have had prior.

A word of advice – do not make offers with these cards unless you see the person you are trading does not already have a ton. There are so many of them floating around that I have seen them traded for commons, and that means its not in your best interest to make huge trades with these cards.

That’s not saying Lacy, Wilson and Nelson arent valuable for scoring points in their own right, they are just not valuable enough to trade for golds or anything that didnt already come from the rookie packs. Murray put up over 2000 points yesterday from the gold card, and that is a big deal for the rookies who pulled a ton. I think that there is value in keeping these cards as they will help you in the long run more than trading them for commons.

In fact, the rookie packs are pretty awesome, as they cost practically nothing, and you get OTHER cards that are valuable in playing for points. Just because there are only 6 golds you can pull, does not mean the rest of the cards are worthless. Just be aware that the golds are not the cards you should be chasing out of those packs.

Please reach out to me if you have questions on offers or cards you are looking for, ill try my best to make sure to respond.

Huddle Kickoff Tips – How to Maximize Points

Kickoff is a fun time, because it finally means we get to play again for the first time since the super bowl. The game has changed significantly, here is a primer on how to maximize your points.

Play Counter

This is at the top of your screen and as of now, 100 is full. As you switch out players in your lineup, you will lose a play. If you run out of plays, you cannot make any more switches and are stuck with the lineup you have.

NOTE: Switch players by taking the card from your sheet and drag it into your lineup at the top. Do not take a card out of the top, as it will cost a play to do so. Just replace it.

Warm Up Time

Unlike last year, cards will not instantly transfer to your starting lineup. It will take 30 seconds for them to be active. Keep this in mind, as it could mean you need to make pre-emptive switches this year.

Scoring

A player will only score points if they are in your starting lineup. That means if they are on your bench, they could get a million points and you wont get credit for any of them. This also means you can switch them out when they are on defense to get points from someone who is playing now.

Multiples

You can play up to 11 of any card, and I would definitely suggest doing so for the best players. If you have 9 Adrian Petersons, I would definitely have all nine starting when he is on the field.

Game Phases

To maximize your points, you will need to switch out as the games are being played. If you dont have the time to sit all sunday and watch, I would at least switch for each phase of the day. Noon games, afternoon games (415ET) and SNF (830). I would then switch again for the Monday night game tomorrow.

Rarity Scoring

Here is the breakdown for the different types of cards that you can play.

White: 1.0x
Green: 1.2x
Red: 1.5x
Silver: 1.7x
Gold: 2.0x

This means you should always play gold cards over a white card because they will score more. If you have a gold Adrian Peterson and a Silver Adrian Peterson and need to choose between the two, choose gold.

Position Battles

Here is my breakdown of the best positions to play:

  1. Running Back – they will get multiple carries per drive and get points per touch
  2. QB – likely will be good cards to play with warm up times
  3. WR – will get more points than QBs, but wont catch the ball every play
  4. TE – see above, with even less touches
  5. DEF – Defensive players are tough to play because of tracking stats
  6. OL – DO NOT PLAY, no scoring

If you have good RBs, those should populate your lineup before good QBs. I would even play mediocre RBs over QBs unless they play for a pass happy team like the Saints.

There is a ton of subtlety to the game, but this should get you going. If you have more questions, tweet at me @SCUncensored or shoot me a message in game.

Huddle Tip of the Day – Understanding the 2014 Card Sheet

I want to do a short write up on the initial stages of the 2014 Huddle Card Sheet, as it is clear there are some major issues right now that are in the process of being sorted out. Reading this is going to save you a lot of time.

1. ALL cards are displayed, not ALL cards are in packs

As we have found out, players like Andrew Luck and Zac Stacy are on the card sheet, but no one seems to have them. They are listed on checklists for awards, but you cant seem to trade for them. Seems odd right? Well, with the recent release of 5 new players in Kaep, Megatron, and company, its clear that all base cards that will be released this year are visible, but not all of them are available. The way to tell is to do a blind trade from the master card sheet, and see if anyone owns the GOLD version of the card. If it says “no one owns this card yet” its likely because it has yet to be released. Dont waste your time chasing it down yet.

2. Card Counts Are Slowly Updating

I have seen people turn down my trades for cards because they show a zero on the back number, despite being out for a number of days. This is an error that TOPPSMARC has said they are working to correct, and you can slowly see them changing as the day moves on. Cards like Russell Wilson gold are already in the 6k range of circulation due to the rookie packs.

3. Normal Rarity Level Inserts vs “Limited” Inserts

As we saw in Bunt, there are some inserts that will populate the “limited” rarity level on your card sheet, while others will be in the other buckets of rare, scarce, and super rare. A lot of this has to do with the NATURE of the card, not necessarily the availability of the card. Single insert releases like Sigs and Golden Moments can be put into both types, but that doesnt mean that either one is more rare than the others. You will come to find out that rarity level really doesnt mean all that much when it comes to inserts. More just for Base.

4. Super Short Print (SSP) Base?

There are certain base cards that are extremely tough pulls. Ones like Justin Smith, Keenan Allen and Tavon Austin are beyond hard to come by, and it is still unclear whether or not these cards are meant to be more difficult to pick up. Some of the cards give fireworks in packs where they shouldnt, which might also be a clue that it is more a glitch than on purpose. You never know though.

Keep checking back for more tips, and ill go through more about the subtleties of Huddle as I come across more information as the season starts up.

Gridiron Unwrapped – New Huddle Inserts 9/5

To say I am about as excited as possible for Football to be back is like saying the Seahawks defense is only kind of good. Now that we are knee deep in 2015 Huddle, I think its time to start breaking down some of the inserts.

SR Marshawn Lynch Signature Series

IMG_2098

Collectability: Extreme+
Playability: football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322

First off, as I mentioned before, there is nothing currently in the game that is on this level. I was severely afraid that they were going to put this at 100 copies, and create a monster, but 240 is still insanely low. This will likely be one of the rarest sigs in the game, and EVERYONE wants it. I had to give up a kings ransom after trying unsuccessfully to pull it, but it is what it is. Additionally, it helps a ton that he had a monster game last night, and will likely continue to be one of the top guys in the game. I was worried that the sig design would be awful, but I have to say, I love this card. I almost think its better than Baseball, just from a design perspective. Talk about dynamic.

Kickoff Set

IMG_2101 IMG_2100

Collectability (SR): Extreme
Collectability (SCR): Strong+
Collectability (OTH): Strong
Playability: Varies

Let me start by saying that these cards are going to be tough gets because there are no other inserts available on this level. Right now, they are it, which makes them extremely collectible. However, the article states that there will be 32 (one per team likely) that will eventually make this set comparable to the opening day set in Bunt. With a tidal wave of inserts coming, they will be easy to come by as the season moves on. But I get it, they look awesome and hot cards always are valuable when new. Luckily for us early adopters they will be rarer than the opening day cards with availability in packs only for 3 days per 8 card group.

Collectability: Strong
Playability: football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322

This will be an ongoing set modeled after the 1964 Topps design. I have pulled 4 of them so far in my pack breaks, and I can say that there will be a ton of these cards. I have been lucky to have traded them for some nice golds, but I wouldnt give up too much to get them with availability around 6 weeks in packs.

More Huddle content to come – check back for more on the game last night and playing for points.

New Bunt Inserts Unwrapped – 9/5

I want to apologize in advance for the lack of Bunt content as of late – been engrossed in the launch of Huddle. Football is my main gal, but I have since taken Baseball as someone I have started seeing on the side. Man, this has been a fun year. Lets get to it!

SR Corey Kluber Signature Series

IMG_2095

Collectability: Extreme
Playability:CaptureCapture

Talk about coming out of nowhere. I literally cannot name another person on the Indians pitching staff right now, but Kluber is lights out. I had no idea who he was at the beginning of the season, and he has quickly made a name for himself. As a 600 level sig, he is going to be hot at first, but will cool off. Watch out trading your 350 and 400s for him unless you have to have it.

Key Cards

IMG_2097

Collectability: Varies
Playability: Varies

I dont usually cover the weekly insert sets, but this one intrigues me. I like the idea of collecting a set to get access to another card, but not crazy about having to pay to pull them through more packs. I get the idea is like a velvet rope to get into a VIP club, but its odd. We will see how this plays out as the cards are trading well. For the good players in the set, I am seeing people give up some nicer stuff, and you can bet that once the main card starts getting pulled, those will go for a lot more.

SR Phillies No Hitter Milestone

IMG_2096

Collectability: Strong+
Playability: N/A

I love these cards, as I think they represent the best parts of the game. Everyone loves a no hitter, but its cool when multiple people combine to make it happen. This card was relatively unexpected, but definitely welcome because they trade so well. Kershaw No No is still one of the tougher non-sig inserts to chase down, and at less than 500 copies, this will be hard too. Lots of Phillies fans out there will want to have it.

I want to reassure everyone that I am not giving up on Bunt by any means, but I will have more Huddle content now that everything is up and running. I would check out the game, it is pretty fun for sure.
