Bunt Update – Is This The Golden Age of Sigs?

I havent done a Bunt related post recently, and I am really sorry for that. Huddle has consumed my every waking minute, and I feel like I have missed some of the major fireworks recently in Bunt. They have released some EPIC cards as of late, and they deserve some major attention.

Capture - Copy 2

When I saw they started doing die cut sigs for HOF and retired players, my ears perked up. There is something about the history of baseball that still rings a chord with many of the physical card collectors out there, and I see that is similar for Bunt now. With the release of sigs for Ken Griffey Jr, Babe Ruth, Lou Gherig and Cal Ripken, I have to say that this might be the golden age for which one should be a sig collector on Bunt.

After a season of Bunt where the entire world revolved around the weekly release of the signature series card, I am one to believe that this was the year for players who loved the chase. It may be that they also loved playing for points like I did, but these sigs were something not of this world. The designs have been top notch, and the checklist seemed to get better with each passing week.

IMG_0086

It was such a huge success, that Huddle has taken up the mantle as well. People love collecting the chase cards of their favorite team, and with the advent of the season long chase, I think we all got to see how important these cards could be in the economy of the game. The Roberto Clemente reward sig might have been one of my favorite cards all year.

IMG_0021

Many people have expressed some discontent with the rarity of the recent sig releases, amplified further by gold variant sigs with even lower counts – but that is where the fun truly lies! If each of these cards had 500 counts, they wouldnt be the chase that they are right now. I am a fan of low count cards because of the challenge to acquire them, as it becomes tedious more than anything when the sets become easy.

Bunt has big shoes to fill for 2015, and I am eager to see how they will be using recent technology like the Parallax effect to make the sigs fresh for a new year. I guess we will have to wait and see!

Huddle Tip of the Day – Is Any 2x Card Still Worth Keeping?

I wanted to address this, because there are a lot of big cards that have been released as of late, including one Andrew Luck that has a permanent 10x boost attached to it. Basically, I have seen a basic downturn of cards that score 2x and below, and I think its worth talking about here.

The bottom line is that the gold, silver, red, green and white cards are still worth keeping for a few reasons. Ill start with my take on a few of them, but I encourage you to let me know if I missed anything.

Points Chase

I will let everyone know that there is not a week that has passed where I havent played at least 1 silver card in my lineup. Even though I spend a ton of money, I dont have the collection yet that allows me to go weeks without dipping into the bucket of scarce base cards for the players who score points. Believe it or not, I do play gold cards frequently, especially on the nationally televised games, as there is a lot more reason to switch out those guys and go deeper into each player.

People have been basically giving away their silver and gold cards to get the boosts of all the players that have come out, and though there are reasons to do that, be cautious. If you have a collection score below 90, you are likely going to need those gold cards, especially when the playoffs start. Although the bigger boosts are definitely worth chasing, dont start giving away your gold – more so if you dont have 11 or more of each player.

Collecting Sets

Eventually, I have to believe more base cards will be released, and at the same time, so will more set rewards for collecting all the cards. Although this is still up in the air, and may not eventually happen, its worth the risk to keep at least one of every base card that you have in your collection. Dont start giving up mass quantities of base for nothing, as there is still a chance that they will provide an opportunity for more set rewards. You do not want to have to chase them down later if that is the case.

Inserts

I still like the collecting aspect of the game, and I dont see Huddle moving away from that way of releasing cards any time soon. For that reason, I like keeping the inserts of my favorite sets, doubly so for the action shot inserts that have been released. Although top inserts like Rodgers and Lynch sig still have 1x boost, they are still extremely valuable cards because of what they represent.

To be completely honest, I see the game changing boosts frequently, even before the end of the season. However, that doesnt mean we should give up on everything else. Just a heads up from me to you.

Throwdown Primer 12/1 – Breakdown of Tonight’s Game Boosts!

Its Thursday, which means another Throwdown is ready for our consumption. Although this isnt shaping up to be the best game of the season, it is one worth watching with the Dolphins knee deep in a playoff chase for a wild card in the AFC east.

Here is a breakdown of how the game boosts may give you that extra spike for your team during the matchup tonight.

Mike Wallace – MIA 7x

I think Wallace has been a bit sorry he decided to sign with the Dolphins after being a featured player in Pittsburgh. He has had his moments, but he isnt the same player he was a few years ago. The Jets have a good defense, but a speedy guy like Wallace may give them a ton of trouble. I would say he could end up having a pretty nice game.

Verdict: Worth Picking Up

Lamar Miller – MIA 7x

When the Broncos signed Knowshon Moreno, I dont think many people expected Lamar Miller to have the season he has had so far. However, he has been potent in both the running and receiving facets of the Dolphins offense, and has performed well above expectations. The Jets front line is about as good as there is in the league, but they have definitely had a drop off after DOMINATING last year.

Verdict: Worth Picking Up

Eric Decker – NYJ 7x

I liked Decker a lot in Denver, and he has really been the ONLY part of the Jets offense that has been worth ANYTHING. He has been banged up week to week, and that has hampered his season so far. Now, Brent Grimes is one of the best corners in the league this year, and its clear that the Jets need a big game out of Decker. We will see who comes out on top.

Verdict: Worth Picking Up

Geno Smith – NYJ 7x

Jets QBs havent exactly been amazing for the last five or six years, and its becoming more and more clear with Sanchez having more success in Philly that it might be the system and coaching rather than the players. Geno has had his issues and then some, and that’s a bigger problem than anything to be honest. Be careful leaving Geno in the lineup tonight as he could be prone to some picks against a tough Dolphins secondary.

Verdict: Low Priority

Honorable Mentions

Ryan Tannehill: I think that his success this year has been a bit of a surprise, but we will see how he does down the stretch.

Cameron Wake: The Jets’ offensive line has been bad. That means a feast for a guy like Wake.

Huddle Tip of the Day – Black Friday Marathon Part Two!

I had a ton of fun over the course of thanksgiving, very similar to the All Star game in Bunt where the game had a ton of releases and everyone was excited to see the next card put out.

The Marathon on Black Friday was also a really cool idea, as it introduced a new way of releasing cards on a timer. With the packs only 2500 coins, it enabled us to open a ton of them while we tried to get each of the cards. I dont think the program would have been as successful with expensive packs and the odds where they were.

We are in for round two today, and although we havent quite seen the cards yet, Im sure it will be just as crazy a chase. The Parallax sig of Phillip Rivers at 6x is already trading at epic levels, and even the Forsett is commanding some major value as well. Im sure we are going to get at least one more humongous card, and I cant wait to see what it is.

Suriving the Timer

Here is what I did, and I ended up with 2 Forsett Chrome cards and 1 Justin Houston Vintage. Basically, target the cards you want over the course of the day and wait until the first 1o minutes it is in packs, overlapping with the previously released card.

From my experience, the set chasers will open their packs in that window, and you want to be in the wave of people opening at that same time. As the collectors get their cards, there will be less people opening, thus making you open more packs to get the card of your choice.

The cards in the super rare part of the card sheets will be EXTREMELY tough pulls, so be prepared to open a ton to get them. Just be aware. There were only 12 Rivers sigs pulled, and 9 Antonio Brown die cuts.

Series for Today – Guesses

If I were doing the Marathon today, I would probably pick some of the following sets to include in the chase.

  • Topps Finest
  • Takedown
  • Triple Signature
  • Street
  • Mint
  • Strata
  • Anniversary

Black Friday in Bunt and Huddle is Looking Epic

Black Friday is upon us! Not only are there a bunch of sales in progress on Bunt and likely coming on Huddle, but we are also going to get a bunch of new releases too. We have already seen the big reveal on Bunt, and it is a doozy. We are also awaiting the final sig release in Huddle to complete the Thanksgiving set, which is shaping up to be the rarest sig in the game.

For Bunt, we have the release of the first (and likely not the last) Babe Ruth card, and its the next of the HOF signature series cards. Its not only going to be ridiculously valuable card, but it will be rare as ever. Babe Ruth is easily one of the best players of all time, and to see that he is getting the signature treatment is absolutely awesome. It makes it worth it to chase down the 12 Marathon cards.

IMG_0224 IMG_0225

Adding in the Deion Sanders Black Friday card that came with every million coin bundle you purchase at the reduced price, and I think this is shaping up to be quite the day in Bunt. I realize I sound like an infomercial salesman right now, but I am actually that excited about this program. BUT WAIT! THERES MORE!

Huddle will be releasing the final of the four sigs today, and if I had my guess, it would be one of the Cowboys. I am also going to assume that the reduction in count with each sig will continue, making this the rarest signature series card ever put in packs in both Bunt or Huddle. WOW. If this card is a Cowboys sig that counts toward the set and if it is 50 copies, this could be ridiculous. Get your running shoes on.

I would also expect some major pack sales to happen, as it is Black Friday and Huddle definitely wants to keep up with Bunt. If you have been saving up your coins, today is your day to spend. Go nuts people, as this day comes but once per year.

Thanksgiving Primer – Which Players Should Make Your Turkey Day Lineup?

Welcome to the Thunderdome! Today is a huge slate of divisional games with playoff implications in place, which means that we are in for a fun day of football. There are a lot of players that are primed to make an impact, many of which will likely be featured on cards today. Here are the ones I would chase to come out ahead in all the games.

Marshawn Lynch – Seattle

Over the last few games, Lynch has been embroiled in some controversy surrounding his media presence, but he hasnt let his foot off the gas pedal in terms of his playability in Huddle. As a Running Back against a tough defense, this might be his hardest game during that stretch, but he should still get some major looks. I like his potential to score some points tonight.

Calvin Johnson – Detroit

Im pretty sure the Bears defense is on the up and up, but they are still pretty terrible by every sense of the word. Look for Megatron to tear up their depleted secondary, and the recent release of his Sage boost will be a good card to chase.

Demarco Murray – Dallas

I have been stockpiling Murray boosts all year, and for one reason. Every game but one he has put up over 100 yards, and the Eagles defense is good but not great against the rush. I would highly expect some big things from Dallas tonight, and Murray will be a huge reason why they win.

Dez Bryant – Dallas

No one has been on a tear like Bryant has been over the last few weeks. He had 2 TDs to help the Cowboys roar back against New York, and he is going to torch the Eagles defense in a divisional game that first place will be up for grabs. The Eagles corners will not be able to stop him.

Jeremy Maclin – Philadelphia

Maclin has had a great season, and it should be no surprise that when he plays well the Eagles win. A lot of eyes will be on LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles, but look for Maclin to have the easiest time with the Cowboys’ secondary banged up after a brutal battle against the Giants.

Darren Sproles – Philadelphia

Here is the thing, the Cowboys linebackers havent been the train wreck that people expected. Rolando McClain is having a tremendous season, which no one can understand. This is going to mean a tougher run game for Philly, which will contribute to Sproles being in more on passing downs and special teams. This is the dude that Philly’s success hinges on.

Thanksgiving Comes a Bit Early – Sig Series Set Release!

I posted earlier this week on all the fun stuff that is likely going to be happening with the upcoming holiday(s), and looks like we are getting our first taste today. With the next four days clearly signaling one of the biggest weeks of football during the season, I am excited to see what happens.

Here is what we know:

  • There will be a signature series released every day (4 in total)
  • There will be a variant signature series released every day (4 in total)
  • If you collect all four, you will get the fifth card, which is Kaepernick
  • The fourth card in the set will also count towards Week 11-17 sig set, which will likely mean it could be a 100-150 count card. Im hoping they all remain at least 200.
  • The first card in the set is Mark Sanchez (200 count)

Guys, I am completely serious when I say that this is going to be big all week. If you only have so much money to spend, wait for them to release something you really want. If you are a bigger spender, start gearing up.

Gridiron Unwrapped – Reward Card Edition 11/25

YES! Its here. After weeks of waiting, the award cards are here! There were some big surprises this time around, including a 5x boost and a special design to signify the cards are rewards. I think that waiting definitely paid off.

Jordy Nelson Signature Series Reward

IMG_0208

Count: 129
Playability: football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322
Collectability: Extreme

This is awesome. Nelson is not only at or near the top of every receiving category in the NFC, but he is on a team that is destined to make a long playoff run. Even though 5x is no longer the boost that it once was, it will still add tremendous value to this card. 73% of the people who pulled the lowest count sig (Luck), were able to complete the set, definitely above the 38% of the people who got Lynch the first time around. I am still happy though, as the 5x boost definitely makes up for it. The Gold is the icing on the cake, and I think a lot of people are goin going to be happy with this card.

Calvin Johnson POTW Reward

IMG_0207

Count: 31
Playability: football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322
Collectability: Extreme

Megatron is always going to have name recognition, which applies here. Although he didnt have great weeks 6-10, he will be a valuable card for Turkey Day and coming up. The Lions are still primed to make a playoff push, and a 5x boost of their top receiver will be nice.

Tom Brady MNS Reward

Capture

Count: 73
Playability: football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322
Collectability: Extreme

Gotta love this card, it looks awesome. Brady has been one of the top quarterbacks since week 2, and I am sure there are a lot of people who are beyond excited that he is the reward. As an MVP candidate whose team is going to be the number one seed, this card will be amazing at 5x in the playoffs.

Rob Gronkowski EC Reward

IMG_0209

Count: 116
Playability: football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322
Collectability: Extreme

The Pats are looking like the best team in the league right now, and Gronk is finally getting back to his normal evolved form. At 116, this is still a very nice card, and also means that like Nelson, a higher count was achieved because of the delayed timeframe. 58% of the people who got Denard Robinson got Gronk, but again, the 5x more than makes up for that.

Aaron Rodgers FC Reward

IMG_0210

Count: 154
Playability: football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322
Collectability: Extreme

Im pretty shocked at how low this card is. Many of the FC cards are still in packs, and to see that there are only 154 of these Rodgers is insane. Being that he is playing out of his mind right now, I think this was a huge win for the set card, as like Jordy, he will be a top player in the post season.

Ben Roethlisberger Golden Moments Reward

IMG_0211

Count: 141
Playability: football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322
Collectability: Extreme

I expected this count to be much lower, especially because Bradford was low count at 350. GMs had high coin bonuses almost from week 6 on, so I was expecting them to stay more spread out with people holding them. This is a good card to have at 5x, as the Steelers are still in the hunt and Ben can score like mad.

Odell Beckham Jr RS Award

IMG_0212

Count: 78
Playability: football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322
Collectability: Extreme+

First off, I know this card was done ahead of his most recent performance. Secondly, this could not be more timely. Although he will not be in the playoffs, he has arguably become one of the most popular rookies in a very short period of time. At 5x this will be his highest boosted card. At 78, it is crazy low count. A recipe for success.

Dez Bryant Black VIP Pink Boost

IMG_0213

Count: 118
Playability: football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322
Collectability: Extreme

When the VIP rewards were announced back in the beginning of November, people were livid that another black boost was going to be the reward. Well, they listened to our feedback and gave us a REALLY good pink card. The Bryant will be a very hard card to get, but should score some major points just in time for Thanksgiving.

Jamaal Charles VIP Valor 5x Boost

IMG_0214

Count: 549
Playability: football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322football-helmet-psd42322
Collectability: Extreme

Gold getting a 5x boost? Awesome. That VIP boost is Jamaal Charles? Even more awesome. I think that Huddle has recognized the need to ensure that people get some make goods when things are relatively late, and this Charles card is definitely amazing. It not only looks cool, but is ultra playable at 5x. Well done.

I think we have all had a good week of huddle right? Cant wait to see what they have planned for Thursday.

Huddle Tip of the Day – Thanksgiving and What to Expect

Thanksgiving week is upon us, and that means two things – Football and food comas. Turkey day has always been one of my favorite holidays, and I am going to say that Huddle has already pledged to make it that much more interesting. I have an inkling that if you are going to spend money on this game, this week is the time to do it.

Thanksgiving Last Year

Last year was big for huddle as it will be this year. Not only was there a release of one of the first true insert sets in the game, but also the first package deal card that gave people a reward for buying coins. Obviously, these two things have paved the way for a lot of what has evolved in Huddle over the last year and a half, so you can bet that we might be getting a lot more than that come this week.

What To Expect

We saw a reveal for the next color of boosts yesterday, and no doubt, they will be a part of Thanksgiving. I would expect at minimum another set or two to chase, including some bundle purchase cards that will probably correspond to the games being played. That would mean some pretty big names up for grabs, and at 7x, worth chasing for the playoff push that many of the teams will have. So far, almost all the teams playing thursday have a legit shot at the playoffs, and that is a great situation for us to be in.

Im also guessing there will either be a special commemorative set, and/or a Golden Moment celebrating something that happened on Thanksgiving for an active player. The commemorative set will have carried over from last year, which was one of the better looking sets all year.

I wouldnt be shocked if there was some release of a Triple Sig, or something like that, as its clear that the big names playing would be hot enough to generate a card like that. Either way, I think we can assume that there will be some sort of ultra limited card, as Thursday has regularly come to be a big day in huddle.

Lastly, there was a coin sale last year, and a pack sale to boot, if I remember correctly. This is something that many of the users would love, and is a way to help sell all of the stuff I just mentioned.

Throwdown Slate

Being that Thursday is usually a throwdown day, I think we can expect some major fireworks. I usually get the boosts that will be offered ahead of time, but this time it has been quiet. That means that something big is likely in the works. We might have our first FULL day throwdown, or even three separate ones – all with special Turkey day boosts.

Bottom line, other than the Super Bowl, this will likely shape up to be the one biggest day of the year for Huddle. Not only is it a game where much of the user base is off of work/school, but also a period where so many of us are playing along.

Throwdown Primer 11/20 – Breaking Down Tonight’s Game Boosts!

Here we go again! Its thursday today, which means another throwdown is coming up! This time we have one team who seems to be playing awfully well, and another team whose play can only be described with some very colorful language.

Here is a sneak preview of tonight’s Game Only Boosts!

Jamaal Charles – KC 7x

Its no secret that he has been on an absolute tear as of late. Not only has he run for some nice yardage, but he has averaged a TD per game with receiving yards in tow. The Raiders’ run defense, led by top pick Khalil Mack has been quite good, but this Chiefs team is still going to make them look silly. Charles will be a big factor.

Verdict: Vital Piece

Travis Kelce – KC 7x

Being a great pass catching tight end is quickly becoming crowded at the top. Rob Gronkowski may lead the way, but Kelce has had a great year so far. Alex Smith isnt the type of QB to drive the ball down field, which means his TEs are valuable weapons. Kelce also has no cards in the game yet, so this is a chance for those Chiefs collectors to get their hands on their guy.

Verdict: Worth Picking Up

Derek Carr – OAK 7x

Despite being the 4th QB taken in this year’s draft, Carr was the only one to start in week one. He has struggled throughout the season, but his supporting cast hasnt helped him much either. He has shown flashes of brilliance, including a 4 TD game earlier this year, but this could be a long night for him. Obviously because I am writing this, he will go off. He only has one other card in the game, so that will make this GO boost pretty valuable at the 3x when it is over.

Verdict: Worth Picking Up

James Jones – OAK 7x

Listen, there just arent many guys on Oakland that are worth having as one of these cards. James Jones is one of the only Raiders receivers that has done okay this year, and I am not surprised he got the nod with McFadden having so many issues. Of the four guys today, he is the weakest, but he is always good for a few catches here and there.

Verdict: Low Priority

Honorable Mentions:

Alex Smith – Since turning the ball over 3 times in the first game, he has only had 2 other turnovers this year. His only knock is that he doesnt bring a dynamic element to the offense.

Darren McFadden – Without a good offensive line, both he and his buddies have had a VERY tough time running the ball.

GOOD LUCK tonight everyone!
